Ideas:
Saline nasal rinses (use a netti pot) or saline nasal spray - hydrates sinuses to facilitate elimination of allergens and pathogens
Vicks VapoRub - inhaling the menthol vapors can open plugged sinuses, enabling them to drain
Steam inhalation - bring a large pot of water to a boil, lean over the pot (not too close, don't want to burn yourself) to inhale the steam, put a towel around your head to help trap the steam for easier steam inhalation; can put a drop or two of eucalyptus oil into the water for extra decongestant action
Sleeping with your head elevated can make sinus drainage easier
Reduce dietary allergens, especially milk protein - the proteins in milk are known to promote the formation of mucus; boiled milk (boil for 5 minutes, then skim off the foam that develops on top & then allow the milk to cool before using) may not be as much of a problem
Massaging the sinus areas (carefully around eyes, nose, cheek bones, & forehead) can encourage better circulation and thus facilitate better drainage
Avoid afrin and other nasal decongestant sprays; they're addictive if used more than 3-4 days in a row
Drink plenty of fluids - dehydration causes drying of mucus membranes, which then makes congestion tougher to get rid of
Use the above with commonse sense - if something causes pain, worsening of symptoms, or bleeding from your nose, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
I hope this helps - take care,
