Chief, I was similar in that the only symptom of Babesia that I had was migraine like headache. I never had fever, or air hunger and though I had some vertigo/dizziness it was not severe....the headache and noise intolerance and light sensitivity were unbearable when I first started treatment. The headache felt like a vice was around my temples and I could almost draw a line where it ran on my head. It was also associated with almost weird feelings of trauma- like my head had been smashed on the wall and sometimes I saw my head traumatized- this is typical of Babesia. Hugh dose homeopathy helped my headaches. Good luck with it.......

I've been getting weird rashes these past few months. I have every symptom you listed for babs except the high fevers and the tipsy feelings. I do run low fevers though. I was wondering if you have a link to some pictures of a co-infection rash?

I agree with you on the muscle weakness as an additional symptom...and mine is often very left-sided weakness. I even test much weaker on the left side. I can't believe how often I can't open a jar of something when I'm cooking....

Chief, I agree you need to find out if you have co-infections. The testing is much better for those co-infections now than when I first got sick over a decade ago. My Babs was just diagnosed 18 months ago. Also, I was positive for the WA-1 species of Babs. So if the traditional test shows negative ask for this one. I was always negative on the other test they use.

hi i am 20 years old and i was tested for lyme and babesosis and the babesosis came back positive about 3 year ago. i was given an anti malaria liquid and took that. and that was that. i didnt know what is was so i took the meds and moved on. is there any long term effects because i have been feeling muscles aches in my arms and legs. i also saw that some forms could be fatal. could that effect me? i don't know if i am out of the woods or not. should i get retested? i am a little worried. most doctors i tell don't know what it is so i just don't know. if i have been fine am i? i just need some info. thanks. I did not test positive for Bab...and only had a few of the symptoms-- no rash or fever--- but my LLMD now has me on Mepron and Azith. just in case.

I was on Amox and Azith right before that and I think the Azith is what really zapped my head pressure/brain fog etc.  It's pretty much gone now and I had this symptom for couple of months. So bad I walked into a wall! Really dizzy etc. Doxy and Amox really didn't do the trick.   

Since taking the Mepron I'm getting some hot flash stuff and my back/neck pain is at an all time high.   Maybe a herx from new med. combo.  Who knows.

i went to the clinic because of headaches and they tested me for babesosis and they said it was positive. i took meds. that was three years ago. now for the past couple of months i have been feeling discomfort pains or muscles aches in my arms and legs and don't know why. they thought it was restless leg syndrome but the meds don't help. i just would love to her anything that might help me that would be great. honestly i don't even know if i had the babesosis i am confused about it. and very annoyed with the muscle aches. any info would be great.

Hi Oliviarose,

Perhaps a relapse?  Were you tested for Lyme as well?  I had the exact symptoms you describe plus a dozen more-- diagnosed (Lyme) on my symptoms alone. I have never tested positive-- yet. 

What meds did you take for babs and for how long? What meds are you taking now that don't seem to work?

I'm not a babs expert....but with a little more info I'm sure someone here will give you great insight.

I don't think I was tested for lyme it wa three years ago and I was only sixteen so I had my mom to help me. I know I took a bright yellow liquid an anti malaria drug for about ten days and some kind of pill that i don't know what is it. I was given mirapex for restless leg symdrome which doesn't help. And a anti-depressant for heahaches which I don't understand why. Last night I went to bed with bad neck pain very tender to the touch and in my back as well. I feel like my whole body hurts and don't know why. I would just want to know if any of this has to do with babs? Or maybe something else. Some answers would be nice I am tired of feeling like crap. What were your symptoms? Thanks

Hi oliviarose,

The bright yellow liquid you took is Mepron-- an anitparasitic for babs. and yes Malaria too.

Might be a good idea to get tested for Lyme, as symptoms such as bad neck pain and all over body pain, headaches can be Lyme symptoms as well.

Best to find a good LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Dr.) in your area. Although Lyme tests can be very unreliable. A good LLMD will review your symptoms and diagnose you on those--- even if you get a neg. Lyme test.

My symptoms are just too many to list! :) but some were neck and upper back pain, brain fog, vertigo, shooting nerve pain, all over random muscle pain, tingling, numbness, sensitivity to sound, ear ringing....and on and on.

Hope you can find a good LLMD. This board can be helpful for that.

First I wanted to say that Cat is giving you good info! Seeing a LLMD would be a very good idea at this time I believe also.

You can find the more common co-infections listed with the most common symptoms in the thread at the top of the forum titled, "New to Lyme?...". You will need to scroll down to the 4th post.

about testing, almost all of the current testing is faulty at best, at worst - it misses at least 1/3 of those who actually have tick-borne infections (tbi's) - I actually believe this is a low estimate! This is why it is important to see a LLMD. Most LLMD's can and will diagnose a patient on symptoms alone (a clinical diagnosis), so that you can get the treatment that your body needs.

There is, however a new type of test out. Hopefully it will prove to be more accurate. It uses "nested PCR and DNA sequencing to detect the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi" for those who understand that type of stuff.

I hope this helps a bit!

Great info on this new test Trav. I'll ask my LLMD about it at next vist. I still have that nagging desire to know that I have Lyme even though I KNOW I have Lyme. :)

I fully understand the 'power' of getting a positive LD test! - even if it is just for my own knowledge!!

Not sure if I am doing this correctly.

I am somewhat confused with all I have read here. Can some one please help me understand?

I am a 55 year old woman. In 2007 I got very sick: extreme fatigue, brain fog, pains all over my body in muscles and joints, strangest burning sensation on my skin and scalp, swelling and irritation on rib cage and sternum which felt like I was having heart problems so ended up in ER. Blood tests showed hypereosinophilia so high that the doctors had never seen a case like mine. Went to all kinds of doctors, internists, allergy, cardiology, infectious disease, oncologists. All kinds of tests were done but they were not able to find my problem. My eosinophylls were so high that my Oncologist told me that as they infiltrated my organs, they would do serious damage. She told me she was very sorry but I prossibly did not have much time to live, 3 to 6 months.

My daughter searched on the internet and found that an allergy to metamucil could cause hypereosinophilia so I got off of the metamucil I was taking. Weeks later, my hypereosinophilia lowered to half of the last lab results but were still seriously high and would continue to be a threat to my life. She also found out that there could be a relation between hypereosinophilia and Babesiosis. 4 months before I had been hiking in Vermont and was stung by a deer fly. I presented all the information to the infectious disease Dr. and he told me he could not help me because the treatment with Qualaquin was too dangerous. I presented it to my internist and begged her to help me. She did her reaserch had me tested for (at the time there were no blood tests for babesia but she checked for antibodies/antigens??? I was positive for those so she treated me with Qualaquin 324 mg and Clyndamycin 300 2 caps every 8 hours for 7 days. I was unable to take the las pill of Qualaquin because ended up in hopital with allergic reaction. Weeks later my eosinophylls were normal and have never gone up again since.

Since then I:

have been diagnosed with Hashimotos
have had 2 total knee replacements due to joint deterioration
All of my joints hurt off and on
I get muscle spasms and burning on my back very similar to what I felt with babesiosis
Continued fatigue off and on
burning in my scalp off and on
developed food and chemical allergies
brain fog off and on

I am reading on posts that the treatment is very long and am worried about my symptoms and the fact that I was only treated for a week. I know I am 55 and body naturally deteriorates but just seems a little much.

Please let me know what type of doctor I should go to, what does abx and herx mean? Is it possible to still have the babesia even though my eosinophylls are normal?

Hi all. I have been treating with IV Rocephin since early August when I couldn't get off my bedroom floor. My symptoms began with weird shortness of breath episodes, sciatica, and chest wall pain in June. The IV Rocephin has seemed to help really well with tingling, excitable nerves in my legs, and brain fog. On the Rocephin I do appear much improved but don't feel like myself. When this started, I had major post exertional issues barely able to walk to the bathroom and back without setting off very scary symptoms of body tingling, SOB, high heart rate and muscle fatigue that would leave me limp. It would take hours to recover. Now I can work from home, do wash, get my own shower. But if I push, the post exertional symptoms of muscle fatigue, SOB, and high HR rears its ugly head again. Just 2 days ago, feeling good, decided to get ready, run a couple errands and go to my own appt. Mistake! I hit a wall I didn't see coming and it took 2 days to recover, same post exertional symptoms since the beginning just no tingling. CDC said positive IgM Lyme in Aug 2017. MDL lab said IgM positive Lyme, Mycoplasma, and Babesia in early October. My numbers are low though ie pos is above 1.10 and I'm 1.15 for Lyme and 1.5 for Babesia. I know the Rocephin makes a difference but I'm petrified to go off of it. But equally wonder if I should be treated for the Babesia and Mycoplasma? The LLMD wanted to wait 3 weeks to see if I feel even better because he said sometimes there can be false positives. What are your thoughts? Seems like a lot of my most pronounced symptoms are Babesia??

Tsak11 - I posted in the other thread you also posted in. I didn't see that you had tested positive for Babeisa. Maybe I missed it in the other post?

I think waiting 3 weeks is fine..before starting Babesia treatment.

BUT, no, there aren't false positives.
