Ativan dose for MRI

Okay due to shoulder/arm pain issues have to have MRI - UGH!! Not a good history with these, so doc has given me 2mg of Ativan to take before procedure to help - is this alot? I react VERY strongly to meds. I only take 0.125 of Klonopin three times a day and a HALF of .25 of Xanax as emergency pill b/c things are strong for me. So will 2 mg of Ativan knock me on my face? Maybe I should break it in half?!!?! Just curious.

Yes if I took 1 mg ativan it knocked me for a loop. Would sleep immediately I used to cut in quarters for the dentist. I take 1 1/2 xanax and am fine and feeling good.

I would take it all. I get clostrophobic.
Taking 2mg does not seem to be double of 1mg in response.
And I would guage it on how much you can handle the procedure really.

I have a script for 2mg for sleep so it is not tooo much..

why do they make ativan to dissolve in your mouth?

You're supposed to dissolve it under your tongue. It gets into your blood steam faster that way. I do this with the Klonopin I take.

Why don't you take half an hour or 45 minutes before and if you're still anxious, take the other half about 5-10 minutes before the scan. You may want to ask them how long you will have to sit and wait before they see you to make sure the medicine works.
