I have been having foot, knee and neck pain for months. Then came shoulder pain. Not so bad at first but has now progressed to where I cannot lift my arm. I can't change clothes without help or make dinner. I saw the doc yesterday and he thinks I tore my rotator cuff. We are wondering if maybe the lyme weakened the tendon and it ripped? I haven't been able to do many activities in the past 6 months so I know I didn't injure it doing anything strenuous. Could Lyme cause a tendon to tear?

I don't know about Lyme but Levaquin can. What antibiotics have you been on?

Only doxycycline.

The foot pain can be associated with bartonella so you should check that out. Knee pain is typical of lyme. I had pain in my arm for a month that was so bad I could not use it. It was in the muscle. Like many of the other lyme symptoms, it just went away. I also had pains behind my knee that felt like a tendon tear and in my hip which hung around for a month or so and then disappeared. Those pains started with a very bad cramp.
When I was on levaquin I developed pain in my arm again which I dismissed because I thought it was a herx. Then I felt a very painful snap in the tendon - joint of my shoulder. I damaged the rotator cuff. It has been nearly 6 months and I am recovering very slowly. At the worst, I could not lift my arm at all to get dressed or brush my hair. Now it aches at night making it hard to sleep.
Hopefully you will get over this pain soon. It is the pits.

Hi Mom,
I AM NOT on any tx or any abx right now, and haven't been for going on two yrs.

BUT - I have a lot of pain in my right shoulder/neck/arm & a lot of trouble with tendonitis in at least 3 muscle groups in around the shoulder blade area.

I know my issues with this are directly related to LD & co's (as well as Masters).

Don't know if this is any help to anyone - but I have hope it will!!!

2 yrs ago i blow out my right knee, i tor 2 things in my knee, 1 they had to fix, the other they wanted ti heal on its own. this was long b4 i knew i had lyme. so yes i think it can happen without being on meds.

They have ordered an MRI. I am hoping the tear is small and an injection takes care of it. If I go to ortho, he can shoot both of my knees as well. I can't hardly move. I feel like I am 90. This has taken my life away.

I have had my LD related arthritic pain settle into my shoulder blades. I couldn't drive for about 2 months because I couldn't turn the steering wheel. And dressing and taking off a shirt was nearly impossible.

My pain has traveled all over my body throughout the years. It usually stays in place for 6 months to 2 years or longer (except for my knees and hips which have been constant). The pain finally moved out of my shoulder blades and has not returned to that sight again (yet-ugh!). So you might not have torn anything it may just be the Lyme arthritis.

I continue to hate this disease.
