Hi 'ALL' - I was interested if anyone has mostly neck/shoulder pain as part of their lyme symptoms - most of my pain seems to involve the 'trapezium' muscles - can anyone relate to this?
Thankyou - in advance

Yes! It got so bad I couldn't even sleep on my left side. My neck pain is at the base of my skull, feels like someone is trying to crush the back of my head. Then my ears and jaw hurt. My collar bones hurt a lot too, I get the sharp pain that radiates up my neck under my chin. Shoulder pain is the worst. Feel like I am being stabbed. I have improved a bit but a year into treatment that is still where all my pain is.(well also my ribs and heels and hand)-hell I think just about
everything hurts at some point! Hope your pain gets better. Did you just start treatment???

Hi Gorbs,
I have terrible neck/shoulder pain. I am always rubbing muscle cream on those areas. Neck/shoulder pain is a common symptom of Lyme.

It seems every time there is a "do you have this symptom" post I respond in the affirmative. If all of this is really from Lyme, once I get rid of it I won't recognize my own body anymore. I sat down last night and made a list of all of my symptoms, how long I've had them, of the doctors I've seen in the last 10 years, and of the diagnoses I've gotten. Taken as a whole, the list reminded me how far away from feeling "normal" I am. Even shedding half of the symptom list would make for a transformative improvement. Something to look forward to.

Rose,
I know exactly how you feel. I had to list my symptoms for the new doctor I saw in Florida. I typed it out so that it would be neat. Once I started typing, I didn't think I would ever finish. I had an entire sheet full of symptoms. It made me realize how sick I really was. It's like, you know you don't feel good, but when you actually see it, it's an eye
opener.

Though I am skeptical of my actual condition, I notice my neck cracking very loudly just before a flair. Weird!
I wonder if there is a pocket of infection in that area, as my bones are affected too.
Do you all have any "pockets" of infection that you are aware of?

my neck cracks when I turn it. Makes a crunchy noise. Some days it is fine but when I herx or feel a little "lymie" it always is cracking.
I have had all of this pain so long I don't remember what I used to feel like. In some strange way I feel like it is part of me now. I sometimes think I don't really know if I am actually improving or that I am learning to live with it. Hmmmm

When I have flares, my neck pops and cracks when I barely turn it. I think it's the inflammation that causes it.

I pop and crack all over, but especially in my neck and shoulders. It doesn't hurt but it's disconcerting. Lovelabs, I hear you about
wondering if you're getting better or just learning to live with the symptoms. Today I thought maybe the popping has improved since I've been taking glucosamine, so I paid attention while I moved around a bit, and discovered it's as bad as ever. I guess I'm just not as bothered by it as I was at first (early summer). I'll be happy when I can start getting used to not having a pile of symptoms. CG, it is an eye
opener! If this all hadn't crept up on me over a period of years, and had instead befell me all at once, I think I would have lost my mind from the pain. As it is, my threshhold bumps up, I get a new symptom, my threshhold bumps up, and so on. I've thought many times I was finished getting symptoms, but so far I've always been wrong. Now I'm working on learning to live with the ear SHHHHHHHHHHHHHing and the sinus congestion in addition to all the stuff I was already experiencing. No fun.

Rose,
I get the ear stuff too. Mostly on the left side. Sometimes when I talk I feel like I am underwater. Hard to explain but very weird. Or all of the sudden I hear a swish and then it buzzes and rings very loud. Has improved with treatment but it still comes and goes.

Yup. It's the symptom I hate the most (at the moment lol). Mine doesn't crack or pop it just hurts (like hell). Lately I've had a lot of problems with the base of my skull, neck and upper back/shoulders. It's very irritating and at times the pain is quite severe. It seems mine gets worse when I'm driving. Some days I absolutely dread the 20 minute drive to and from work. Anyone else have more intense problems after driving? Speaking of which, I need to finish up at work and drive home. ;(

needshelp,
Have you ever went to a chiropractor to see if an adjustment would help? Good chiropractors can really make a difference and lesson pain sometimes.

I've had pain in my shoulder blades to the point where I could not drive a car because I couldn't turn the wheel, or look over my shoulders to see if any cars were coming.... But after about
6 months that dissipated into other pains. I finally had to get a cervical facet injection on the left side of my neck because the pain had went on for over a year. In the beginning, it was all in my knees and hips.... then carpal tunnell, then the shoulder blades, etc. etc.
