Help with some questions before I call my doctor

Hi All,

Just a couple of questions for you before I call my doctor.

 

I've been on Doxycyclen for 14 days now, and my bm's have increased drastically. I eat and my stomach will rumble and it's very explosive diarreah, soft, soft stool. I'm not sleeping at all through the night either, this is the worst part. I'm taking 1 tablet three times a day and they are 100mg. Should I ask for a new antibiotic and ask for a sleep aid as well?

There is something called C difficile that is very serious and causes terrible diarreah. You need to let your doctor know about this right away. It could also be just a reaction to the antibiotic, but let your doctor know.

Btw, do not take anything to stop the diarreah until you talk to your doctor.

its not water there's actually loose stool, mush. I did fax my doctor a letter. My big thing is I need to sleep during the night! I take a sleepytime tea before bed with valerian root, but I end up peeing all night.  I feel like I'm making improvement,  but I'm not sleeping at all and my stools have not improved.  We'll see what the doc says and thanks for your help. Nap time for me!

when I was on doxy I had sleep issues. I have never ever had issues with sleep and after stopping the Doxy, my sleep was back to normal. Also, when I was on it, I had loose bm's if ate salad. I would eat it, immediately get severe stomach pain and rumbling then have the bm within minutes. I think the Doxy effects how we digest some foods, so watch what u are eating maybe? The pharmacist told me that doxy caused constipation though? I'm a firm believer in each meds effects each person differently when it comes to side effects.

Hi JennInPA, did you stop doxy because of your sleep issues? It doesn't matter what I eat, I get the rumble in the lower GI and bam explosive pooping! I will wait to see what my doc says. I do feel a bit better though since taking Doxy, I can't really say how, but over all a better feeling.

I stopped taking Doxy after about 8 weeks or so because I was not improving. I'm now on Fluconazole and Cefidinir and have felt much better, no sleep or GI issues. Nausea here and there, but that's it.

I go back in 4 more weeks, I faxed over a letter to him, we'll see what he says, Did you have Chrons or UC like me?

My doc just called me back and is going to give me Cefidinir and he said give me a little rest before I try it, I forgot to ask, whats a little rest mean? Urggh, I hate when I can't think on my feet. Thanks for your suggestions. Linda

He probably wants your GI system to calm down, but you should ask exactly what he means. I started a sleep aid, Ambien, from my very first LLMD visit. Insomnia is part of lyme, as well as a side effect of some meds.

I think I waited a week between meds. I herxed a few days in to my Cefidinir. Are you taking a good probiotic?

On any antibiotic you should try and take a probiotic supplement.

I use two types, both need refrigeration. One is ultraflora DF the other has 8 strains of stomache bacteria. This is a must do if you are on antibiotics.
