Well the insurance company denied the IV

mad So now the battle begins.  I have never had a positive lyme test so they refuse to pay for the IV but they'll pay for the more expensive spinal tap which is not accurate anyway.  A very upsetting day to say the least.  Screaming, yelling, fighting, I don't have much left but what I have they're gonna hear.  Supposed to be a review by their doctor and my doctor sometime next week.  Lets hope I don't lose my vision or have a stroke before then.  Fingers crossed.

DO not let this get you down.

Appeal and see what happens.

Please remember, IV is NOT always the end all or the answer. Many have gotten better on abx and herbal alone. Even those that have been infected for any years.

I am not trying to discourage you, but rather encourage and let you know if you cannot get IV...there is still hope of getting well.

Also, I do not know you financial situation...But the IV drugs themselves are not too bad to purchase on your own thru several REPUTABLE companies, as long as you have the Rx for it.

It's probaby going to be hard to get the insurance company to agree to pay without the positive lyme test.
Have you made any decision regarding the spinal tap as a way to rule out MS?

thanks. I really dont' want the spinal. My body doesn't do well with additional stress. I am so nervous it will send the nervous system into even more stress. I know I have lyme so why put myself through a spinal that is inaccurate for late stage. I am 5 years into lyme at least. I have a postive ANA, 3 bands on IGG, positive MRI, positive coinfection. I thought even the CDC says lyme is a clinical diagnosis. How much do you think the IV is and isn't it the only want to beat central nervous system lyme? Thanks again.

I have central nervous system lyme too. I did 30-days on IV-Rocephin and am still dealing with significant lyme issues. Maybe long term IV-abx is the way to go but my doctors have warned me about the potential risks. I am confilicted at this point about what to do next.

I believe that I read that IV-Rocephin costs $256/day but I'm sure that if you shop around you could find it cheaper.

Hope that you get the treatment that you need soon.

You can get the IV much cheaper than $ 265- a day, especially if you get it in powder form and add the water yourself.

No, IV is not the ONLY way in your case. Many abx out there used in the right combo and enough strength can beat it!

Is your LLMD willing to treat with high dose orals?

I am with infectious disease dr. currently. Started with LLMD, did not like at all so switched to be covered by insurance. I am going to have to start to look for LLMD though I think. At present I am only on 250 mg. zithromax. I have to look at Burracsanco's recommendation for nervous system lyme and recommended dosage of zithromax.

If you can, I would highly recommend getting to another LLMD.

Your abx is much too low after this period of time especially.

You just might find you do very well on the correct oral abx and doses!
