Anyone been told they have "infectious migratory polyarthritis?"

Ended up at the hospital yesterday after I woke up and literally could not move my shoulder and left arm. The pain was unbearable. I have had a low grade fever for about a week with some intestinal issues and thought I had eaten something contaminated perhaps. Well, the diagnosis was migratory polyarthritis and when I researched it last night, it said the cause was always "an infectious agent." Hm...Lyme I suppose. Just wondering if anyone ever had that dignosis given to them. The drug they gave me (mobic) sounds like it could kill a healthy horse so I will not take it. I am in NO LLMD land here in Texas. Was wondering if an ID doc (I know you are all thinking..don't do it) could help to determine the "infectious agent." Healing thoughts to all of you and sincere thanks..  Dowa

Hi Patti: I am a New Hampshire native living in Dallas. Feeling like a "fish out of water." :)

I know from reading here that folks generally say to stay away from ID's. Just curious if any other infectious agent would show up. I know they do not want to hear about Lyme here, went through that already  with an immunologist. "We have no LD in Texas." Right...

Very interesting reading. It says it can be caused by a bacterial infection, including Lyme. It can also be caused by a virus. I'm assuming that must be Epstein Barr. I tested positive for Epstein Barr too.

So sorry to hear about these new things you are having to deal with, Dowa. I have tested positive for EBV as well - as PattiB said - it seems as if quite a few of us Lymies test pos for EBV.

I hope you are able to find the answers you need & are able to get some treatment.

Thank you Traveler. Do you think that maybe the Epstein Barr is what initially weakens the immune system that then allows other things to take hold? My Epstein Barr test was positive many years ago.

 

The treatment given for the IMP is anti-inflammatory meds and the list of side affects was just frightening (like heart attack) and I will  not do that to my body. So I increased the fish oil, etc and will see how it goes.   D

My EBV tests was many years ago as well, but I was told at the time that I would never be able to work full-time again, as my levels were so high. I was a young, single mother of two small children at that time & did not have the luxury of having that kind of choice. I pretty much believe that was the beginning of my undoing, as I have only gone downhill since that time -except for the last 3 or 4 years where I have actually stabilized - I think.

I personally believe that there is really no way of knowing for a whole lot of us, whether a TBI, a virus, a bacterial infection "started" the whole thing to begin with, as whatever happened happened too long ago to be able to differentiate what came first. Although that is only MY opinion.

As for the IMP treatment - If you are not comfortable with taking 'scripts with those kinds of side effects, why not go with a herbal/homeopathic treatment? I have issues with inflammation, (although not like you do) & I take things that have anti-inflammatory properties - Chamomile tea, kefir, & uhmmm,... something else (can't think of it right now!! ACK!!) There are actually quite a few herbal/ homeo products that address inflammation, only I cant' think of them, either - my brain seems to be elsewhere today (maybe it's decided it needs a vacation???).
