I USED to get the horrible pain at the bottom of skull 'the ball bits!' - also lots of vice type headaches and shoulder pain. I had all of this plus severe unrelenting neck pain - all started following a tick bite. I have been treated with antibiotics, I am taking 'doxycycline' at present , I am getting a lot of leg pain.
I tried lots of things to help with the headaches/neck pain - chiro. accupunture, massage - etc; I was eventually given six cortisone injections - three in each 'trapezium' muscle - this was done by a 'pain management' doctor, his diagnosis was that I have 'myofascia' pain. I know the injections are probably not good to have considering my lyme disease BUT about one week after those injections - the pain started to subside. That was approx. 2 years ago. My neck is by no means perfect now but to have relief from the almost constant pain that I had is very welcome.
Before the injections - the top of my shoulders were very hard and knotted - stress would make it all a lot worse - I still get some small knots but I try not to hunch my shoulders 'up' when I am stressed - which is apparently a natural thing that most of us do when stressed.
Hope this might be of some help to others- Best Wishes
