Hi!

I have some questions about Babesia.

Does anyone recognize this as Babesia headache: Sometimes burning, sometimes pressure, sometimes soreness when touched, headache moving between back, top and forehead, now everywhere, together with stiffness, pain and creaking in the neck? I also wonder if fevers, sweats and persistent heart palpitations are a sign that the medicine is not enough, or can they also be reactions. My wife is treating for Babesia but have so much trouble with her stomach during the first month that she could only manage 3 Malarone a day. It affected all symptoms except her headache. Then she changed to Wellvone/Mepron and started taking Artemisinin and got worse. Some of it was perhaps, but now she is not taking Artemisinin but Azithromycin. She has fever, headache and her pulse is 100 despite beta blocker. She woke up this morning drenched in Sweat. We suspect resistance or too little medicine but we can’t be sure. Perhaps it’s Lyme or Bartonella.

Grateful for experienced advice from other patient.

Hi Nuffe,

Welcome to the forum! The headaches, pressure, soreness, stiffness and creaking sound like Bartonella. Has she been checked for that? The fevers and sweats sound like Babs. I also had heart palpitations and a high heart rate with Bartonella. It sounds like she may be herxing, which means that the bacteria is being killed off. Is she doing detox baths?

I am so sorry to hear about what your wife is going through. You are a wonderful man for helping her like this!!! Many of us here don't or didn't have any family support.

I'm sure you will find that we are a caring, helpful & understanding group here!!

My first thought was something Cajungrl said - Is she detoxing?
If you haven't already, it would be very helpful for you to read through the thread at the top of the forum titled "New to Lyme?...Start here."

It has a whole bunch of information that we believe to be very important in trying to live with tick-borne infections - including a couple of very gentle detoxing routines.

I hope this helps some...

Is your wife being seen by a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor(LLMD)?? With the issues that she is having I would highly recommend that she be treated by someone who knows all of the ins & outs of this disease.

Dear CajunGrl and Traveler,

Thank you both for your answers. This is exactly what I been looking for, facts and practical advice. We live in Sweden and we have no LLMDs at all and no doctor would officially admit that there are such things as chronic lyme disease or co-infections.

My wife has been ill for 15 years and we soon realized that it was an infection probably tick borne, but the standard tests showed no infection, so she was given the diagnoses CFS which in Sweden means you wont get any help at all. In 2007 she got meningitis and we had to go to a German Lyme doctor to get help. He started with treating the Lyme which was of course not so wise. She has had some very bad relapses with entirely new symptoms and now we realized that she has Babesia and most likely Bartonella and probably Mycoplasma too. Our German doctor are not very good at co-infections so it is invaluable to hear about other patient's experiences.

We know it's important to detox. We use Epsom salt, infra red sauna and lots of water. I was very interested to read about the hydrogen peroxide, will try that. My wife says that she doesn't think her current symptoms are herxheimer reactions, they come and go regularly over the day, just as they have done before she got the right medicine and there is a certain stress that comes with symptoms but not with herx.

I'm sorry to hear that many of you seem to lack the most important support from your families. In our case one big difference is that I too have one or more tick borne infections, so I now what it's like. Thankfully I have never been so ill and I have been able to support our family. Sadly our son is starting to show symptoms now, fatigue, brainfog, creaking neck etc. We're planning to try the Marshal protocol, because antibiotics treatment has not been very succesful for my wife. I'm glad I found you, we can really need both understanding and advice. Thank you both again and take care.

I am really sorry to hear that you have so few choices when it comes to treatment for tick-borne infections! At least there are a small handful of herbal/homeopathic type treatments that can be done at home.

My heart goes out to you & your family!! It's been hard enough on my family with myself being the only one infected!

Have you had the opportunity to read Dr. Joseph Burrascano's "Advanced Topics on Lyme Disease"? "Dr. J" is a very well respected LLMD.

I use it a lot for reference & I even have my regular doctor using it!!! I was actually the one patient to convince my regular doc that there is such a thing as chronic Lyme & Lyme Arthritis!! Here's where you can download your own copy-

I am one of the truly blessed people here as I have the support of my family - now. Although there are a whole lot of others here & on other Lyme forums that are having/ have had issues with getting support from their families. My heart always goes out to them!!
