My appointment didn't go well, the doc won't take the Lyme test for me, she said Lyme doesn't present in the way I'm explaining it. What's the friggin harm in doing the test? So, can anyone tell me what to expect, in a general sense, as far as the bills for an LLMD. We just bought a house and we are so, so, so low on cash. I'm not sure what I'd have to spend with the LLMD. If I had anything at all extra, it'd be spent there, my health is worth that, but right now we're super tight and it's so fustrating, I just want to know what's up from a doctor who doesn't think I'm a hypo. On that note, why do these docs think that about a person who keeps turning over rocks to find the answer. Who in their right mind would want to spend the precious hours of our lives in a waiting room? I'm only there because SOMETHING IS WRONG, otherwise I'd be having a nice dinner at Olive Garden or playing with my kid. I don't get these people. As soon as I start talking about all the places I've been for an answer, they think I'm nuts. It's really making me mad now. If I wasn't sick, I sure as heck wouldn't be there. Maybe my approach is wrong or something. Maybe I shouldn't say squat about my previous history.

What are you symptoms? Post them here and maybe some of us can help you before you spend the money for an LLMD and blood work. Do you have insurance? My insurance does reimburse me for part of my LLMD and blood work. Do not rely on any other doctor. They do not know lyme. LLMDs are still learning about lyme.

HI Menalcompass (may I call you MC?),
I am so very sorry that you have found yourself in this situation!! Unfortunately there does seem to be quite a few of us that are dealing with the same situation - I believe it has to do with our poor economy.

Unfortunately LLMD's are usually pretty expensive - they are highly specialized, just like a heart doc, a Neuro doc or a Rheumy doc. There are however some protocols that can be done at home, which makes it a little less expensive. Some LLMD's may be willing to work out a payment schedule or something as well - be sure to ask!!!

If you will dig into the thread "New to Lyme?..." you will find many great links to follow to learn about different protocols that are available - with some that you can do at home.

MC, I agree with the others. And yes your health is worth the money? Just fork out the bucks to go to an LLMD and send in a reimbursement form to your insurance; if you have one (PPO or similar, HMO's wont reimburse). You are worth every penny and you will kick yourself for waiting so long to do it!

My LLMD, who has Lyme herself is an OB/Gyn, endocrinologist that specializes in infertility and abdominal pain. I think my initial consult with her was $400, that appt was at least 2 hours long. My follow up appts are $175. She is an "out of network" MD for my health plan, but they cover 70% for out of network providers. I probably get back half of the visit costs. But she, and I'm, totally worth it!!!

Look at it this way.....the sooner you get the right help, the sooner you feel better and get to play with your son more.

ps - I just finished reading "the ever widening circle" by polly murray. the woman from Lyme, Ct that got "Lyme arthritis" on the map. It's great. I found it at the library.
