This is my first post but have been a visitor here for months. I'm not sure if I have Lyme or not, but I definitely have all the symptoms and have since childhood when I broke out with a rash that was diagnosed as ringworm. Since that time I have had too many unexplained illnesses to list with no diagnosis except 'you must have an anxiety disorder'. This past summer I had finally had enough of feeling like crap and told my doctor I wanted a complete work up, including lyme testing and specifically told him I wanted WB and not ELISA. Of course his first comment was 'there is no lyme in Montana'. The tests came back positive for Mono and 'equivocal' for lyme using, you guessed it, ELISA. My doctor says that even though the tests say further testing is needed, the numbers are too low and it's mono and not lyme. I tried to tell him that if it's mono, I've had it for about 35 yrs. I guess at this point I'm just looking for advice on where to turn to next. My quality of life is not good, but I sincerely don't remember what it's like to feel healthy. Thanks for letting me vent and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to our forum!!! I am so sorry to hear that you have been ill for so long- we have many members who have experienced very similar situations like you went through - I'm one as well! I was infected with RMSF at the age of 5 - I'm staring pretty hard at 50 now and a little quality of life is my only goal at this point - total healing from these tick-borne infections is, of course what is needed - but that's a much more long term goal!!

Since you have been poking around here for months you may have already read through the thread at the top of the forum titled, "New to Lyme?...Start Here!", but if you haven't yet - please do!!! It is packed full of great information & wonderful links to help you understand some of what is happening to your body.

You most definitely need to be seen by a doc that believes in LD!! These docs are known as Lyme-literate Medical Doctors (LLMD's). There are not many around, but we can help you to find the nearest one to you most likely.

What you will need to do is to create a new post explaining you are looking for a doc & what larger city you are nearest to. Some LD patients must go out of state to be seen by a LLMD - that's my situation, although I am too ill to travel that many miles (1,000 round trip) on a regular basis. Of course you will need

to determine what healing modality you wish to use - Antibiotics, Herbal, Homeopathic, Acupuncture with Traditional & Modern Medicine. A few docs are now combining healing modalities now & are getting much better results.

It is now so wide spread that it is considered pandemic. CDC reports don't really show what's going on because so many docs fail to even recognize Lyme for what it is! I think the CDC estimates are considered to be off by 20%???? --Someone please correct me if this is not accurate.--

I do hope this helps a bit!! We are here so that our members can vent a bit, discuss what is going on in their treatments, support each other, and offer encouragement.

Where in Montana are you? I lived in Montana for most of 1983-1996....

I know an excellent herbalist in Bigfork, if you are interested...he is Lyme-aware and may be able to help you with complementary treatments along side whatever other Lyme treatment protocol you choose. It is estimated that at least 10 times as many cases of Lyme actually exist as what the CDC reports (and it is likely higher than this).

Thanks for the replies. I live in a small town outside of Billings. I've decided to try and find an MD that will take a blood sample and then allow me to pay for them to send it to IGENEX. I'd like to get a diagnosis before I start treatment, which I know may not be possible with the high % of negative results despite infection. I have been in touch with Dana (creator of Truthaboutlymedisease.com) with symptoms, MD's visited, diagnosis', etc.. and she feels strongly that it is lyme. It just confounds me that it takes an act of congress to get a physician to take it seriously and really investigate it. But you all have, unfortunately, experienced this so I'm preaching to the choir.
