Has anyone needed to have a spinal tap to truly diagnose this Lyme?
Curious. I don't think so, however, would appreciate feed back.
Thanks,

My experience might not help. I was first diagnosed and given doxcycline. Then a year later, when I obviously to me still had the disease, it took a spinal tap to allow for the intravenous antibiotics - one month prescribed. At the end of that, I begged for continued treatment because I still felt horrid. Three months later, doctors allowed one month more of IV antibiotics, but told me no more ever again. Needless to say, I still have lyme. Now I depend on supplements to make it through the days.

Ginnia,
What supplements do you take?
Sorry to hear you still have it. I do not believe it goes away, although many of my friends are saying, oh, you'll be fine when they treat you. Yes, that is a nice thing to believe. Realistically, it may not be totally cureable. Besides I believe I never caught it in time.

I haven't figured out if it's a matter of not being cured, or having to live with the damages -- damages which increase in intensity over time. I really think they (bacteria) build some sort of symbiotic relationship with the body and just stay there. Maybe if someone is treated while the intruders are only in the blood stream, they can be killed. When they develop their cystic forms that resists antibiotics and when they develop the little foot appendage that drills into the walls of individual cells, treatment has to be long term. If you don't get that, you live with trouble.
I take too many supplements to list individually - just lots of vitamins, herbal antibiotics, magnesium and other minerals. I take some of the amino acids that the body is supposed to produce itself, but needs more to survive lyme bacteria - lysine, CoQ10 for instance. Sometimes - when I can't find a supplement, I'm not taking it for awhile, so none are consistent. But I think that mixing them up is a good thing -- especially with the herbals -- to keep the bacteria off balance.

NO to a spinal tap. It does have its risks, and really doesn't prove anything.
Lyme would more likely show up in a blood test than in a spinal tap from what I hear, since it tends to live in the tissues.

Hey where is Just Me and Lyme Fighter ? I think they did this?
a few people have. is this for insurance company? if it is in your tissue I don't think it shows up in the spine.
I don't remember anything good for anyone who did spinal tap.
I hope you talk to the people here who have done it. if you type it into the "search" section here at top of page ....SPINAL TP FOR LYME you will see a lot of experience and talk about
it.
I woud rather do something like a stool test for parasites that these ticks carry than have someone dig into my spine.

I had spinal tap looking for MS but also for Lyme. It came back negative for Lyme but my bloodtests were positive. My LLMD said on 20% of people will show lyme in their spinal fluid. BTW...my lumbar puncture was a piece of cake. A little tenderness in my lower back for a few hours, but other than that...nothing.

Interesting! Much information is based on symptoms I've been hearing. I've tested for MS three times and finally have pos. for Lyme.

I , also, never developed rash. Quite honestly, I'm shocked I have Lyme! I'm sure I've had it a very long time! I've had pain for a long time.
thanks for your input Carrie,
Have a super nice day!

I don't want it either. Don't plan on it. I've read a few things on some Lymies getting it.
Thx Gary

True, most who have gotten it did it before they got an LLMD who knew that a spinal tap is worthless to dx Lyme disease. Rarely, if ever, will a LLMD suggest a person get a spinal tap to be tested for Lyme disease. There may be rare occasions where it might be necessary, I don't know. But generally, the only doctors who do spinal taps to test for Lyme disease are those who have no clue about
it.
The best option (as you well know by now) is to go to a LLMD and let him/her test and treat you. Igenex is the best lab for testing for Lyme. The sooner the treatment begins, the better your chances are of beating this evil, demonic disease.
