Been lurking, searching, and learning on this forum the last few months. This will be my first post.
My long story short:
My symptoms began shortly after returning home from an outdoor camping trip to Co. over 10 years ago. I won't go into detail only they could be categorized as classic Lyme/ co-infection symptoms. Most were fibromyalgia type. Went thru many doctors and tests with all results normal.
After a few years I just gave up and learned to live with it. After reading on this forum I will comment that my symptoms were very mild compared to most. They never stopped me from doing anything and can best be described as uncomfortable or moderately annoying.
Back in Sept. I had a friend who's wife was diagnosed with Lyme. Some of her symptoms were similar to mine so I made an appointment to go see her LLMD. Did 2 weeks on abx's and then had blood work sent to Igenex ( tested for Lyme and all co-infections ). Results tested positive on the fish test for babesia duncani. Everything else came back negative.
My LLMD started me on Dr Burrscano's protocol for treating Babesia. (Min. treatment time of 4-6 mo. then evaluate). After 3 months on the protocol I feel much, much better, with symptoms greatly reduced. Not sure how much herxing I have done but I would say the first lasted 3-4 days with what I would describe as flu like symptoms. The following herx's have only lasted a day or two. I have a good detox plan going so I'm sure this is helping.
Now the 64k question. MY LLMD wants to add lariam to the mix. She says it's the most effective for crossing the blood/ brain barrier. Since my symptoms initially began in my head I have to assume this stuff is firmly entrenched there. The side effects of Lariam are very scary. LLMD says she has used it on hundreds of patients with only 2 experiencing problems. She mentioned they were already having psych. problems to begin with.
I am looking for advise on whether to add lariam or not. Is there anything else as effective that is safer and works just as well? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I would hate not to fully eradicate this stuff or relapse down the road.
Thanks
