I know we have touched this subject before, for that I apologize.  i don't remember how many positive lymies had EBV  or have it ?  thanks

Hi roses,

I am one who tested positive and had high titers of EBV. I am not sure if I ever recovered from it because the symptoms are so closely related to Lyme symptoms. I still have all of the symptoms.

My doc said that I was exposed to it at some point in time although I have no idea.

I tested positive for EBV in the late '80's, and was told that my titers were through the roof. The doc said (I'll never forget these words) "I've only seen titers this high twice before - you'll never be able to hold a full time job again for any real length of time."

Part of the reason I won't ever forget those words is I was a single mother of two very young children at the time! smhair

I have been tested recently, and was told that they are still 'high', but I don't know what the numbers were.

My symptoms are like Cajungrl said - right in line with my symptoms of tbi's (tick-borne infections).

my son had ebv last fall he is a senior in college. almost had to be admitted into hospital
he is so sick again (I don't know that he ever really did get well) EBV EA normal <10 he is 63.H
EBV NA IgG normal <18 he is >600H
EBV VCAIgGnormal <18 he is 189 H
EBV VCA IgM normal <36 he is <10

EBV interpretation : Reactivated chronic infection

I had this ordered by the PA I could maybe give my dr. appt to him on TuesdaY I was supposed to get my blood results taken over 4 weeks ago/ but maybe dr. could look at him instead including this lab report

His WBC count is normal which too me indicates this could be something other than mono. he was treated by a lyme literate dr. when young maybe 2nd or 3rd grade. Research is showing a trend toward high EBV and linkage to auto-immune diseases inc lyme and chronic fatigue

any advice appreciated. he wants so to go to CA with his sis may 8 the very day after his commencement and in between that time has to move out of his apartment and move his stuff back here, I have to say no don't i? He is so sick I know he wanted to go but personally i think he will be lucky to keep classes up i am going to ask him to quit his p/t job

I wish we had a dr. on this board. well thanks for listening. I think I can only think when I write. I am now thinking I am saying NO to CA until he rests up here at home for about a month I would die if he went and had to be hospitalized. We have to get tickets like today or they will be a fortune and the airline wont let a person give the ticket to another person. I am going to have to go with her i have been just doing like a 180 with mi health, I am tempted to put him on tetracycline 500 mg t.i.d. after he is out of school as it might make him sick initally but has just saved mi life.. Ironically he is on doxy b.i.d. for acne.

EBV can make someone feel really sick. I remember when I first got it. I thought I was going to die....literally. It was worse than having the flu, which I thought at first that that's was what I had. His titers are high, so that's why he feels so sick. Maybe he can postpone moving for now until he feels better physically. And maybe, just maybe, it is JUST EBV and not Lyme. It is a fact that alot of people get EBV and some never even know they have it and they do not have Lyme Disease. He needs to rest up and if I were you, I'd get him some vitamin C and whatever other supplement it takes to boost his immune system.

I'm so sorry to hear of your son's health issues!! How horrible! I have been very fortunate to not have to go through my adult children not being seriously ill.

Like Cajungrl, I sure hope it's EBV and not Lyme!!

When i looked it up, it said the chroic reactivated high ebv count was unusual and should be investigated to make sure it is not a misdiagnose as its symptoms are very similar to lyme. That sent me to the moon.

LOL i feel somewhat better now, Church helped and I feel sleepy neither hubby or i slept well so a nap sounds like heaven right now.

I also learned that should someone u know get "reactivated' ebv with high titers if the wbc count does not move the physician should investigate autoimune diseases possibilities, lyme as one of them.

I gave him a bunch of vitamins. He does not have to move he has to finish 5 very difficuult classes on campus, to graduate in 5 weeks with his bachelors in econ. (I hope he is quitting his job I told him I'd try to get him the money instead AH LOL) He is a perfectionist (ah) and doesn't want to lose his high gpa. I guess I am going to go to the school nurse tomorrrow with his results tomorrow morning and tell her that we are trying to find a better dr. (His "dr" is a PA who isn't overly knowledgable and I say this w/o any mean intention whatsoever.). What a mess. I know some people get offended about God but if anybody wants to say a secret prayer for this kid, I love ya LOL I am bad, I am glad I can still laugh, mom looked at mi face this morning after church and says" oh honey u are sick again." lord have mercy I have never been a pretty lymie, I wish I were, I look like deputy dog and if i don' stop stress eating I will be 200 pounds. What scares me the most is his personality is taking on 'lyme' traits. CajunGirl did u act any different like mean? I thank u for your testimony on how bad u felt with the ebv and i am going to pass it along to him with the hopes it might make him feel better? Thanks so much for just bein there i would give anything I'd go back to the worse days of lyme if he can just not have it. I swear I would . There are so many worse things than me being sick. i have been getting well on 500 mg tid of tetracycline, but I don't dare give him that he might herx. He had lyme when he was younger, ah.

I had EBV/mono when I was a junior in high school. I don't know what my titers were. When I first got sick, I tried to keep up with all of my classes (all of them advanced placement), plus playing for the varsity lacrosse team. I just kept getting sicker. I ended up having to take nearly a month off of school and was sleeping 16+ hours a day. When I was awake, I was grumpy and moody all the time. I'm sure I was a royal pain to my parents. I worked with my teachers and still managed to maintain my gpa that semester, though. For about a year after that, if I pushed myself too hard, I would start to feel sick again. But after that first year, and that was 12 years ago now, I've been symptom free. Tell your son to take it easy and get A LOT of rest! Hang in there!

Your son sounds just like my daughter!!! She pushed really hard all through college as well!
