Here's a question regarding the balance between these two. In anticipation of seeing an LLMD tomorrow, I am wondering about
the pro/cons of going with pharmaceutical abx's versus herbals. I have no problem with either unless there is potential to do more harm than good. I am anticipating that she will want to increase and broaden my abx treatment - right now I am on 500 mg Amoxicillin 3x a day and that seems low and now braod enough from everything I have read so far in treating Lyme. In other words, I probably should be at least 2x or more stronger on the Amox and add another type of abx to ensure proper kill of the bug (I cannot take tetracycline-based abx's).
My question is this - would I be better served with the abx's now, at least intially, or herbals? My situation is that I contracted the Lyme probably in late April or so. However, there is every indication that I have had this most of my adult life (am 51 y/o now). If chronic in nature (with mainly neuro symptoms), again, the same question. Inquiring minds want to know!
Here's my own opinion at this time: since a re-infection has no doubt occurred rather recently, I am thinking that a strong course of abx's is in order to knock that part out as much as possible. Plus, I have no idea what, if any, co-infections I may have. So, perhaps 2-3 months of abx's and then to herbals? The reason I ask is that I seem to have a pretty strong immune system that can take care of the physcial symptoms of Lyme - I still have the neuro symptoms but maybe they are caused by continual die-off of the bug and the neurotoxins affecting me in that way?
Ahhh, just 'thinking out loud' here and contemplating the doc visit tomorrow...
