hello,
i have been lurking on this site for well over a year, but finally have a reason to post.
after dealing with undiagnosed symptoms (primarily neurological) for 2 years, i had igenex testing done in january 2011 and it was indeterminate for lyme, bartonella, babesia and erlichiosis. IgG showed band 31+ and band 41 IND. my LLMD put me on a trial of 200mg doxy/day and i had my blood drawn again in late june. this time he ordered testing for rickettsia as well as PCR testing for lyme.
i got my results back a week ago and they are igenex positive with bands 31+ and 41+ on IgG, as well as an over-the-top level of antibodies for rickettsia/spotted fever, not typus. PCR was negative. my LLMD--one of the best in the biz and former president of ILADS--says this is the answer i've been looking for during the past 2.5 years since my life turned into a living hell. he is confident that i have both lyme and a highly active rickettsia infection. the big obstacle now is treating the infections since i am allergic to all the other antibiotics he wants to prescribe. i have to travel to find a doctor that can desensitize me.
i know I probably sound insane, but i am having trouble accepting this. everything i have read says that doxycycline is the drug of choice when treating rickettsia, and i have been on it since april, but still had a very positive result and haven't felt better at all. if anything, i have felt worse. my husband was leaping for joy after our appointment, and bought champagne and couldn't wait to call the allergist to start the ball rolling for the desensitization process. i, on the other hand, am feeling incredibly guarded and fearful about
having my hopes for resuming a "normal" life dashed once again.
i would appreciate any feedback you good folks might have about
my situation. i am coming and going and don't know where to land.
blessings to one and all,
binx
