Discussed Lyme with my GP again today.

Based on how I reacted to being on doxy for 3 weeks and how it brought down my inflammation, he agrees that there is something going on. I asked him about referring me to a LLMD ad he seems open to this, however we need to find the right one. So I will be seeing if there are any here in Ontario. I can't get the one to return my phone calls.

He said I should be on an antibiotic for 6 months in the meantime. I told him I wanted at least 400mg a day of doxy but when he called into the pharmacy they said that it's only available in 100mg caps and the max is 2 a day. Does anyone know why this would be the case? I hear everyone saying that that's not enough but why can't I get more? It must have something to do with the laws in Canada?

What should I do?

So glad you have the recognition you needed. Perhaps the LLMD will know how to get around the dosage limits.

I'm also glad you've been able to move your GP along. As for the doxy, get a new pharmacy. Here in BC, I've never heard of anyone being told there was a limit to how much doxy they can get with a prescription. (I take 300mg/day.)

Great that he has agreed to treat you. It sounds to me like the insurance company will probably only cover 2 a day maybe??

Should I take it in the meantime while I'm waiting to see an llmd? I know others would say its too low of a dose so I don't know what to do. I already got it filled.

Lyme can gather strength in a hurry, so I personally would continue taking the Doxy, even at 200. You had a good experience with it-- enough to convince your GP which is great!!

IMO you'll be getting a head start while you're waiting to see the LLMD.

Doxy causes some sort of skin photosensitivity-- thus the sunburn effect. Also---do not take Doxy with any kind of dairy. It greatly hinders absorption.

As Lymester pointed out, don't lie down after taking Doxy. The dissolving pill -- if left to sit-- can really irritate your esophogus.

So happy to hear that your GP is going to help you out!! Why not give the pharmacy a call and ask them why your prescription was turned down? That way you would know who said 'no can do'. Or could you use a different Pharmacy?

Congrats on getting some treatment going!!!! Please be sure you detox, detox, detox, and do the dry skin brushing, and drink plenty of lemon water - 8 - 8 oz glasses a day. That way you might be able to stay ahead of the die off!

The morning that I was to start the doxy again I went to the blood lab to re-run some labs. The doctor just called me with those results. Before I get to those, let me post a refresher of my previous lab.

On July 21, 2011 - Started 3 week trial of Doxy

Ran labs one week prior to this with the following results:

WBC 6.9
ESR 14
CRP 6.9

Post labs were run a couple of weeks after 3 week trial

WBC 4.1
ESR 1
CRP 1


Tuesday September 20th, 2011 - Starting Doxy Treatment
Labs re-done morning before:

WBC 9
ESR 2
CRP 1

Cortisol 5.92
Testosterone 8.8
T4 19
T3 5.2
TSH 1.4

He says I definitely have an infection of some kind. Is it normal for WBC to jump so high after just stopping an antibiotic? This could explain why shortly after stopping I started to feel pretty miserable again in a hurry. Also, my testosterone is very low. Anyone else have experience with this with relation to Lyme?
