I went to see my LLMD the other day after being on Doxy for 3 months, I havent really seen too much of a difference and am still feeling very anxious. I have a lot of anxiety lately and have had since being ill, panic for no reason, intrusive thoughts, OCD, irrational fears, you name is I think it. I always put this down to just anxiety but could it be the lyme causing all these psych issues?
Not only that but by LLMD is sure I have Bartonella also, could this be causing some of the problem?
I feel like I dont have much control over the way I react to stress either.
Im not sure if its my brain or my hormones or just me but im hoping it goes away soon.
I have now been placed on Ciprofloxacin 1000mg a day for a month now and will probably go back on the Doxy after that.

Yes the thoughts you are having could certainly be LD related, I suffered the same type of irrational thoughts for the years my infection was not treated. I too could not handle pressure of any kind, I just didn't know how to respond. Now treated the ideas and feelings I had have completely gone, hopefully when your treatment starts to see off the B.b you'll start to think and react more clearly.

Thanks for your response, im relieved someone understand what im going through. And im happy for you, I always love to hear of people getting better, gives me hope. I do hope this is Bart and Lyme because I dont think I could deal with this for the rest of my life. Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.  I can totally relate.  I lived with horrible anxiety, panic, fear, paranoia, rage, anger, etc. for years.  My LLMD also believed it was the bartonella causing those symptoms.  I am feeling terrific these days but it does take a while to get under control.  My treatment was very aggressive as far as antibiotics - I am still on roxy, doxy, bactrim and amantadine - for over a year and a half now.  But when I tell you I am enjoying life and have a totally clear mind for the first time in many many years.  I am also on the lowest dose of cymbalta which is probably helping but as most of my other symptoms have also disappeared, I am hopeful that I have these stupid diseases under control for now.

I'm sorry that you are having such problems with those things! I am another one who has gone through periods of what felt like extreme anxiety, intrusive thoughts, irrational fears and even things like rage.

Both Lyme and Bartonella have those listed as possible symptoms. I didn't bother to look to see if other TBI's have those listed as symptoms as well though. Most likely this will resolve as you get further into your treatment, although please don't put off using an anti-anxiety medicine - you don't need the added stress that automatically comes with living with those symptoms!

This has been the worst part of my illness. I still take Ativan a few times a week but I've gotten it mostly under control. I've always had anxiety, although I've been sick for so long that maybe thats where it originated. I feel like my every response is totally exaggerated. I also think part of it is that when I'm herxing, I have the same kind of bodily sensations that mimic a panic attack, and that ends up giving me a panic attack! I really can't give you much advice...it all just kind of lessened on its own.

It's interesting that you all have bartonella-related anxiety problems...I've been all but begging my LLMD to test for bartonella and she won't (wants to see if the Lyme goes away first which I think is all wrong) and I really thnk it's bartonella causing my psychiatric symptoms.

I know the two are connected, but does anyone have any links to research explaining why/how bart causes anxiety?

I don't know of any links that can explain how or why Bart can cause anxiety - none that I can actually understand anyway!!

What I wanted to say was about your doc not wanting to treat Bart until after the Lyme goes away - most knowledgeable docs treat Babs and/or Bart before expecting a resolution with the Lyme. Some docs will treat Lyme in conjunction with Bart or Babs treatment when the Lyme symptoms are overwhelming.

Dr. James Schaller has some books out on Bartonella (www.bartonellamd.com/articles/bartonellainfectionsagitation.html)
and is a big advocate of treating Bart infections first.

He also has done a lot of research into Babesia. You can download free e-books on Babesia and see other free article, books, and even purchase e-books from his site if you wish. www.personalconsult.com/

Although my PCR test came back negative for bart, my LLMD always suspected I have it because I had such horrible anxiety. It subsided a little after treatment, but I still get anxious to a greater degree than I did before lyme. But I am also post-menopausal and anxiety is common at that time.

what the, who the heck stuck you on antibiotics for that long?! i would be anxious too if i were u, i dont blame u ... i finally saw the specialst and explained to me how awful long term antibiotics are, i'd rather take meds for each symptom and donate tons of money towards the cure for lyme, or towards better treatment, i personally would opt out of long term antibiotics, you can find a few things online through some websites, including from a dr steere who actually discovered lyme! and from the Control Disease Center, I gave my insurance company a call and who also confirmed long term antibiotics is not good.....geesh 3 months and still anxious, maybe u should ask dr about stopping? ask your doctor, feel better soon!!!! xo

We cannot allow anyone to flame someone's choice of treatment.

There is a lot of controversy over the treatment of Lyme, but this is a place of support, not a place for criticizing.

Please keep your posts to the helpful and informative.

Hello! doing a search brought me to this post here. I haven't been around the forum in a long time, since my son has been doing so much better. But even though he's much better, he's still not 100% symptom free; two years almost of treatment now, but he's very close still. He's on herbs (and in hind sight, I think the break I gave him from tx summer 2014, and the low doses of herbs for many months, probably have dragged this out longer, but anyway… we still go forward now).

But the reason I'm commenting now and on this thread, is my son told me yesterday that he had a bad thought; hated it, tried to "beat it" out of his head. It REALLY distressed him and the way he described it I can tell it was an intrusive thought. He said it's not the first one :(
I've been thinking, reading, and asking today, online…is it bartonella? is it lyme? is it babesia? parasites? (someone mentioned somewhere that they may be a part of these). I don't know for sure, but being treated for all of these (have to start parasite treatment still) hopefully, prayerfully they'll go away! I'm not letting them stay with him!

I was very encouraged when I read here just now, that a couple of people's intrusive thoughts went away with treatment. He's on Beyond Balance herbs now for lyme and bartonella. I can tell these herbs are helping him with the other symptoms; he just stepped up to the level 2 formula which is stronger, so I believe they will help him get rid of this symptom too. I pray they do! Any ideas or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
