I have been diagnosed with Lyme disease, Babesia and a split decision on Bartonella. My Lyme was treated (IV and oral antibiotics) and
I continue on Mepron for Babesia. I continue to be EXTREMELY fatigued. I am not sure how to proceed. My LLMD has exhausted his ideas.I'm interested to hear from others that may have experienced this. Is this the result of damage from Lyme? Is it Bartonella? Any thoughts would be appreciated. (I have not been treated for Bartonella. Not sure what that treatment involves.) confused

It sounds like you need a new Lyme Literate Doctor. Is your doctor affiliated with the International Lyme and Associated Disease Society?

He is a very llmd. He's on the Board of the regional support group. Very well versed in Lyme and Babesia. He is well respected and has a huge waiting list. I was diagnosed in 2005 and am in health care myself. I am thankful for all he has done for me and hundreds of others. I believe adrenal fatigue and other situations exist "post lyme" and am interested in those that relate to fatigue. Id also like to talk to someone who has had Bartonella and been treated. There are differing opinions about Bartonella diagnosis and tmt among the llmd's so I'm interested in someone who has lived it. Thanks for your concern. ( I have to travel 4 hrs. To my llmd)

I just asked because the ILADS treatment guidelines recommend the treatment of Lyme beyond the cessation of symptoms. I have not heard of an LLMD not knowing how to treat Bartonella.

Many of our members are being or have been treated for Bartonella -- no doubt they'll be along to comment soon!

I have continued tmt. Off and on. My gut finally disagreed with most antibiotics. I am sure I could benefit from some of the specialist who deal only with Lyme as my doc is an Infectious Dis. Doc who also treats aids. Unfortunately, there are none within driving distance. So, I guess I am looking for some peer help and support to try to understand why this fatigue persists. Do u believe that excessive fatigue is a symptom of persistent Lyme? I'm not aware of any tests that can confirm or deny the presence of Lyme after treatment. Perhaps u know of something. ThanksS

Ella, this sounds very similar to my first post here almost 1 year ago.

You sound confident that your treatment has killed the bacteria. Good. You know your body and you're probably right. Many on this forum love antibiotics... love them. But they can only do so much for you. Your body is now damaged and it's time to fix it. Move into a new chapter and focus on healing. Everyone heals differently but here are some basic things that can help everyone.

Eat healthy (increase fruits, veggies, green tea. no alcohol. no sugar. also see if gluten is affecting you)
Get exercise (increases oxygen flow to help repair your body and brain)
Get sleep (melatonin is amazing for deep nighttime sleep. also take day naps if needed)

Also see if there's any herbs/supplements that could help you. For fatigue I have used Ginseng and Astragalus with success. This combination is very popular in Chinese Medicine. Hope this helps. Good luck and keep us posted.

It might be adrenal fatigue triggered by Lyme disease. Unfortunately the usual blood tests show something only when you basically near death.
I get down with this extreme fatigue every few years - after some stress. Unfortunately it always takes at least 4 months to recover, even if the stress is gone.
I think many supplements that are supposed to help with fatigue, like ginseng or maca powder (as well as cafeine) only stress your adrenals further.

You know need to rebuild your gut and like Apple said, work on the adrenals. Abx kill bacteria and also do a ton of damage to the organs.
Get your liver and your kidneys in top shape and work on the adrenals.

Hi EllaB and welcome!

I agree with Peacesoul.  You may want to build up your immune system by detoxing (there are instructions in the sticky thread called "New To Lyme?  Start Here!" and changing your diet if you are eating lots of bad carbs, sweets, etc.

Magnesium is known to help the adrenals (fatigue):
