I'm aware of how to read a western blot, the difference between IgG and IgM, but my test results keep bouncing back and forth from one to another?

My first Western Blot test results- IgG 41 and IgM 41, 23

2 years later, I was tested for Babesia and it came up as a positive IgG. Also, I got a complete negative of a Western Blot. My LLMD was not satisfied because we needed a positive test for insurance purposes, so he did another test but sent it to a special lab in NY.

3rd Western Blot test results- IgG 58 and IgM 41, 37, 58, 93

Do bands become active and then non active, then active again? How could I still have a current infection after 14 months of antibiotics? And is it normal to have both IgG and IgM ?

Any advice would be great!

I just spoke with my LLMD about this as my son's doctor wants to keep testing him. She said that she does not believe the testing to be that accurate and does not retest but rather treats by symptoms. Once you have chronic lyme, she doesn't believe you ever get rid of it but try to get to a point where your body can fight it off on its own. I don't know if that means the IGG and IGM can constantly bounce back and forth or not but it makes sense that it would.

Hi Brittany,

Your results just indicate how useless the tests are, IMHO. Your body may or may not be producing antigens (what the tests are looking for) at any given time, co-infections mess with the tests results, and you may have one of the many strains of the bacteria the test doesn't detect.

This is not much help to you, I'm sure!
