HI!

've been on the forum for a number of years with questions about Bartonella after a cat bite in 2007 which led to ER surgery, 5 days hospitalization, a PICC line for 6 weeks, oral antibiotics...seizure activity for 1 1/2 years...then a bit of quiet time but remained on Doxy...my immune system has not been strong since the bite and I seem to get everything that comes along. I had a bad bout of bronchitis from Dec. to Feb. felt good for a few weeks, then developed some bug or something that caused fever of 103.6-103.8 for 4 days...felt a bit better for a few days, then had another bout of seizure activity last week...still feeling fuzzy in the head, extreme fatigue, mentally vague, others are seeing my eyes droop again...all the same old sypmtoms...has anyone else continued to experience all these symptoms with Bart after so many years?  My doc told me last week that I haven't been truly well since 2007 when I was first bitten through the joint capsule. She suggested I try for SS disability...I will go through the process but this is so vague to most of the medical community I am skeptical of really being able to get SS disability...although when I do go through the absence seizure activity I am non-functional and cannot work...doc has now limited my work hours...any comments would be most appreciated...THanks

Hi Petma,

So sorry to hear that you have been struggling so long with your illness.

There are several members who have been able to get disability compensation, I hope they will jump in here. It seems with the seizure activity and the fact that your doctor is suggesting this, you have a good shot at getting it.

Have you considered using the herbal treatments for Bartonella? Many of our members have had good results using that route.

Thanks for the response and the encouragement. I know most people are denied the first time and have to go through subsequent attempts before actually receiving disability. I am certainly going to try since my doctor is behind me. I've nothing to lose at this point. This has gone on for so long and I just never know when I am going to through another episode. Every time I try to work full time long hours I wind up back in the same spot, which is no fun. I do hope other members will respond to my post.

Hi petma! I'm sorry to hear everything is so up in the air for you. Are you currently seeing a LLMD/being treated? These bugs can be pretty tough to kill off completely - it takes a lot of patience!

I'm currently in the middle of my disability claim - I would definitely suggest getting a lawyer. Everyone told me to, but I didn't want to go through the hassle so I did it myself, which I have to say I regret now. It took them a long time to get back to me and I think if you start out with a lawyer, it should take less time, and you only have to pay them (most, at least - make sure beforehand) if you receive benefits. It's a frustrating process, I'm not going to lie, but if it has to be done, it has to be done. My best advice is not to take any of it personally - it's their job to see to it that you don't receive benefits, and it reflects the process more than it reflects you personally!

I'm afraid I can't be of much help with the bart - after a great deal of time my doctor and I still aren't 100% sure whether it's a factor for me or not. I find it helps to keep as accurate a list of daily symptoms as possible to narrow down what's likely to be causing which symptoms. Were you diagnosed with lyme, as well?
