hands/arms numb???

Is this a common symptom??  Just wondering. . .   Caity started a parasite protocol and her hands and arms are having periods of numbness--to the point of not being able to hold on to things.

Is there anything to do for this???

I had this symptom and it went away with treatment.

All of these symptoms are quite alarming to experience but must be doubly so when you are seeing it in your child.

I hope you can keep researching and familiarizing yourself with all of the symptoms of Lyme so that you can be calm and reassuring to your daughter while she rides all of this out. That is a very big job for you!

I do know that any new symptom is probably Lyme related.  I have lived through this long enough to see the symptoms come and go, and even when we do investigate a symtom further (med tests, scans, etc,), the results come back "normal."  No wonder medical professionals deny the existence of Lyme because they only look at their tests and not at the whole person.

I think, as a mom, sometimes I just need the reassurance of others who are LIVING this.  I am not, only through my child, so even though I KNOW the above to be true, sometimes I just need to hear it.  So thank you all for responding, thank you for the endless encouragement.  I am grateful for a place to vent, ask questions, sometimes just to sound off!  This is the best forum I think for that purpose!  I am truly grateful for those of you who share your experiences, thoughts and wisdom.  I hope some day to be "out of the trenchs" and to return the favor.

Make sure she is getting enough Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid. Deficiency of these important B Vitamins can cause parasthesias (numbness & tingling) that can become permanent if the deficiency is not corrected.

Lyme causes a person to need more B vitamins I think than the average healthy individual, so RDA amounts are not sufficient for us.

I take 500mcg B12 spray orally as needed, and also 1000mcg B12 injections periodically (about once or twice a month).

I take methylcobalamin. It is better for those of us who have methylation troubles (like me).

It is normal for me to lose feeling on outer 2 fingers on my left hand... Horse-riding accident, landed real hard on palm/wrist then elbow, shoulder/back... I did notice that my arms or legs go to sleep a bit faster now, even if I'm not laying on it or have it positioned odd.

THM, it is AWESOME that you are looking into things. Sadly some people think that because you read into something that you will start reflecting it into your own body, or your loved one. So far I love coming here also to look for advice and to see how others are coping. It helps you understand what you can do to help fight Lymes, help morally, and vent.

I've recently begun to experience the numbness and tingling in my right arm and hands. Like someone above posted, I experience it mostly at night and I definitely recall two nights where it was just my pointer finger that 'fell asleep' and was tingly and it went away after flexing and bending the finger for a few minutes. A few nights later, and as recently as last night, I woke up to my forearm being numb and tingly, but after flexing and shaking for a few minutes, it went away. As I type this the back of my right forearm feels like it was punched or something and a little sore, and it just feels weird....like there's a slight weakness but I have mobility in my fingers and arms. Also like someone posted above, I've found this disease to be one thing or another; seems when I think I can't get any more symptoms, something else shows up. We definitely have to have a mindset of not panicking when something else pops up because this disease is very unpredictable. Like everything else I've experienced, I hope this too shall pass.....

I came down with symptoms in Sept. 2013 (after pulling a tick off my that summer) and later finding a red patch behind my left knee...anyway, long story short, I've been treated with doxy (had to switch to minocycline) rifampin and tinidazole. Had 5 bands (4 determined, 1 undetermined) Lyme disease, bartonella, and babesia. Most of the worst symptoms have diminished, still dealing with visual disturbances, some dizziness, slight headache, slight chest pains or discomfort, and now the numbing and tingling. Currently treating with a variety of herbs and vitamins (cat's claw, andrographis, taurine, magnesium, garlic) and will probably have to add more B vitamins to the mix.

I think the combo of rifampin and tinidazole worked for that. I kicked the babesia and bart almost two years ago. I have residual stuff from the Lyme I can't seem to get rid of

I'll try to answer the best I can: as far as symptoms go, I had the bartonella rashes all over my abdomen; these streaks that appeared after I got out of the shower. They didn't have any texture or anything, just red streaks like stretch marks or something. My Lyme doctor said it was most likely bartonella. I went on the meds and like I said, I was taking three meds at once so not sure what exactly defeated what, but I know after the tinidazole was introduced, the red streaks disappeared not too long afterwards. The babesia is what most likely caused my breathing problems (always out of breath, awful head pressure/sensation, sweats) and either the mino or rifampin helped with that. I was always on some med, whether it be all three, or cycled on and off to just two, and finally down to just one (I currently pulse the mino) but to pinpoint what med did exactly what is hard to tell, but I do know that while on all three the majority of the worst symptoms and signs greatly diminished. I do have odd residual stuff that I question of whether something is 'coming back' or not so good thing I still have mino and tinidazole on hand! In the meantime, I would say I am 'maintaining' the best I can and taking a variety of herbals and vitamins. There's obviously no 'play book' on what to take to defeat this dreadful disease and if there were, we'd all be cured of it and wouldn't be on this forum asking questions and looking for guidance....
