can this drug be used to treat bartonella or babesia? or is it primarily just for lyme?

My doctor was treating me for Lyme and Babesia and prescribed this for me.

What are you taking now? Are you making any progress?

Ummm....I was on Rifampin and Bactrim for Bartonella (instead of the usuall quinalones), and I have been on Biaxin for Lyme. I don't know about Biaxin for babesia one way or another.

i found out that i am allergic to bactrim so now im not on any medications bc i was waiting to hear back from my llmd. she wants me to start taking zithromax and then add in another antibiotic for bartonella- it starts with an R. maybe its rifampin? i couldnt understand her on the phone, have to pick it up from the pharmacy still. ive been not making progress but worse after being off antibiotics. i had terrible pain and chest symptoms, i believe from the cats claw i was on and GSE, so i stopped those. now ive had severe air hunger and dont know what to do for that. im hoping the zithromax and this other antibiotic will help it

Biaxin is not initially a good choice for Lyme. By the time you discover you have Lyme, it's too late for it to be effective as an initial line of therapy. Zithromax is a better choice. Zithromax has a very high tissue concentration and disseminates from the blood to the tissues in a rapid fashion. It will kill all or most of the spirochetes through out the body with the exception of any that might be in a cystic form in the blood. Biaxin should be used for Lyme after Zithromax as it has a very high blood concentration and doesn't penetrate the tissues very well. This should kill the cystic forms and help prevent a relapse.

I took Biaxin. I have Lyme and babesia, bartonella and possible erlichia. I only took biaxin for a week but probably had more energy that week than any other week. Almost hyperactivity/OCD-like energy. Then my liver enzymes got out of control and I had to stop it for now.

i had been on biaxin from september through december (added in ceftin at one point). then ran out of antibiotics when my LLMD had his license suspended, but started biaxin back up for a month before i saw my new llmd. then she took me off it bc she thought 4 months was enough. however, i noticed biaxin is one of the antibiotics i tolerate the best so far- im pretty sensitive to drugs.
