Wondering if anybody with lyme is sensitive to odors. My boyfriend the other day was wearing a cologne that i usually love but I could not tolerate it. It smelled so strong and was bothering me. I get this a lot not only with his cologne. I am not bothered by food smells though. I was wondering if this is part of lyme or maybe candida. Would love responses. Thanks.

I am super sensitive to odors. I have been for a large part of my life (now when I think back - I hated going through department stores with perfume spray ladies and I couldn't wear perfume). During pregnancy it got bad like it does for many women, but it never got better. I guess mine could be candida related but I have a similar situation with sounds and light. My LLMD said that it's normal for his lyme patients to have smell and/or sound and/or light sensitivities. It has gotten better with treatment and I'd think that if it were candida, it would get worse since I'm on multiple antibiotics. Can't wait to hear what others say. I use all fragrance free products now because I can't handle smells. I have been able to squeeze in a lemon cream and a lemongrass deodorant so that's an improvement!

Yes, I am very sensitive to odors but not all the time, it comes and goes. Sometimes I can smell food from a different floor of the house (and not food that's being cooked on the stove or oven either).
With me, it tends to happen during times when I'm having a lot of twitching and/or fainting. There is speculation that it may be a type of seizure in my situation.

YES, I am very snesitive to odors. My husband loves to smell good but he doesnt realize it is too much for me. Sensitive to almost all smells and noise intolerance as well. I am not under the care of an LLMD yet so I do not think their thoughts~

Oh boy! I've had those sensitivities come and go over and over again! It's irritating too! All at once I'm gagging because some poor lady walked by me with perfume on! Asked hubby if it affected him in the same way, and he didn't even notice she was wearing perfume!
Phantom smells are the worst though! I went around looking for the gasoline in my house for almost an hour once! Then I'll smell a dirty cat box in the grocery store!! Needless to say, that grocery shopping trip got cut short!! LOL!!!

Traveler,
I'm laughing at the image of you trying to find the dirty cat box in the grocery store, LOL!!! Thanks for the giggles!!
I'm also laughing because I've done similar things! But in my case, my smeller usually is not wrong. I've been dubbed the canary in the family, because I smell things long before anyone else does...burning food, smoke from the woodstove, etc. And yes, even gas from natural gas appliances, even if there are no malfunctions or leaks...I still smell the gas.
Don't even mention the cat box...ewwww!!!! I can't go near my Brother's cat box... I'm allergic to something in the litter, not to mention the smell of cat pee....ewwwww!!!!
And I often believe some people are missing their sense of smell altogether, or they'd never put on the whole bottle of perfume....LOL!!! I know they didn't really put the whole bottle on, but sometimes it smells like it!!!
I've had to have my DH switch to natural deodorant because the smell of his Old Spice stuff was making my eyes burn and water when I was around him...
And floral scents of all kinds, even from flowers themselves, tend to send me running away sneezing... Just too strong!
I've been this way my whole life...and it only seems to be getting worse and worse...
