hair loss

So sorry that you are going through this. Hair loss has been a huge issue for me. I was known as lion girl when I was younger. I had thick curly hair. My hair went limp, started to even get darker and people were asking me if I was dying my hair and I have only had highlights in my hair 9 years ago for my wedding. My hair has been falling out on and off in clumps. I started to get crazy and count the hair so that I knew if there were lots of strands falling out. I was loosing 400 to 500 per shower.

So here is what I've learned that hopefully will help you...
1. This is what lyme does to some people. In my experience my hair will fall out and then will be fine for a period of time. This occured for me before treatment and currently during treatment.
2. Stress will make this worse.
3. I don't think there is much you can do to stop this from happening but here are a few things I've tried that have helped:
- I had candida so being on an anti candida diet is best. I noticed that when I cheated I had larger quantities of hair loss.
- I noticed that getting my stress down has helped a bit, if anything take my mind off of this.
- I tried things like coconut oil conditioning (you can read about how to do it on line). It did help make my shower smell nice and since I had candida it also helps with that.
- I changed my shampoo to one with biotin in it. It's a natural one but has helped make what hair I do have there fell fuller and thicker. I've also started to regain my curls back to the point where people are no longer asking me where my daughter gets her curly hair from but saying that they see where she gets it from.

There are lots of pieces of the lyme puzzle that can be causing the hair loss including hormones being off, candida overgrowth, deficiencies in vitamins like vitamin D. Make sure you get all of these things checked out and make sure you're taking a good omega 3. That is supposed to help with things like hair and nail growth and lubrication in your body like your eyes, mouth, etc.

I too lost my nostril hair but it's all growing back and now I'm not seeing any when I blow my nose.

Hang in there. It will get better. I don't know how long it's been going on but for me, as soon as I focused on stress, worked on treatment and added the biotin hair treatment it's gotten much better.

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Sometimes that can be the culprit for hairloss. I've had a good amount of hair loss myself so I know how frustrating it is. For what it's worth, mine's grown back pretty thick after falling out a few times.

You might want to look into vitamins like biotin - they tend to be really great for hair health as well as skin and nails and a bunch of other non-cosmetic things. There's even some talk about biotin deficiency being common in lyme. Might be worth considering.
