Difficult to urinate

I realized it was 10 o clock this morning and usually I have to pee immediately when I wake up. Not so this time. I actually had to "try" to go. And when I did I went, but it was very dark. I'm scared - is this serious??

I still have 5 long days before my LLMD appointment

Did it look like blood in the urine? What kind of meds are you on? One abx I was on turned my urine brownish red along with tears and sweat. Is it possible something you're taking? Or could you have a bladder infection? I only had a bladder infection once and I was urinating clots of blood! That wasn't fun. Go through everything you are taking and look it up to see if it causes discolored urine.

Shabbychic is right,what we take,can cause changes in the colour of our urine.

I can remember neon yellow,"glow in the dark " urine which frightened me to death,it turned out that it was from some vitamin tablets that I was taking at the time.

I would start to worry if it stays dark or if you think that there might be blood present

Also make sure you're drinking enough water and not dehydrated. If that doesn't do the trick and it continues, you should definitely tell your doc to do a urinalysis to rule out infection and presence of blood.

They next time I went it wasn't nearly so dark (whew!) but still, with as much as I'm drinking I should really have more of the "urge" to go and its like I've lost it...I really have to try to go.

Opugirl,

Shabbychic is right - Rifampicin colours my urine a dark brown - some people even have coloured tears and sweat, and wearing contacts is not a good idea cause they will turn brown or yellow. It's more intense just after taking the abx, it'll be lighter 12 hours later.

Vitamines too can make it bright orange or so.

Opugirl,

What medications are you taking? Have you changed anything in your diet? Did you go to the bathroom at night more, and thus didn't have a full bladder in the morning?

This definitely wasn't from medicine. My pee has been a nice neon yellow when I take Vitamin C or B but this was like out drinking all night yellow. It has cleared up throughout the day but I still have to force myself to go. No change in diet.

Hmmm. It really reminds me when I had my bladder infection. It's like my bladder would just spasm and it felt like someone was squeezing it and i felt like i had to pee, but it wouldn't come out. it was, seriously it was by far one of the worst days of my life. it was horrendous pain and i'm no stranger to discomfort-- i've donated a kidney, had 2 c-sections and one was before the anesthesia kicked in! bladder issues have been my main symptom with this lyme. it really makes me miserable.

Shabby, I have several urinary issues also and for the past 15 years or so I thought the burning upon urination was from tight pelvic muscles but now you've changed my whole thought process.

Maybe the Lyme is the real cause. I do know I was bit by a tick about 20 years ago so it's quite possible. I was bit again summer of 2011 and now my urine has a strong odor and microscopic blood not to mention a host of other symptoms non-urinary since the second bite. Such a weird disease how it manifests.

Oh Geez! I'm so sorry for having been sooo preoccupied with what was going on in my life and not seeing this! It's liekly the Lyme doing this to you Opugirl!

Lyme seems to love the bladder in particular for some people. I've had all kinds of urinary issues - from bladder infections to leaky issues and they have all been brought to me thanks to the Lyme! Feeling like I have an overfull bladder and yet not being able to do more than a pitiful dribble is something I have had to deal with more often than I like to admit! LOL!
