Hi all -

Does anyone have any information or experience with flagyl/metronidizoled making thier insomnia worse? Or how about getting a buring sensation on their back from taking it? I know lyme causes insomnia - but everything seemed to get MUCH worse once I started this medication.

Thoughts?

Flagyl did not make my insomnia worse, but one thing I have learned is my body doesn't always respond as expected and I get some really unusual HERX reactions. I would suspect a HERX reaction first, my doctor will pulse my meds to give my body a chance to catch up on the detoxing when medication caused symptoms start to wear me out.

I have been taking Flagyl on and off for several months, it is a lifesaver for my gut pain and burn.

If everything seems worse since being on Flagyl, it is more than likely a herx. Flagyl is a cysts buster. So, it breaks up the cysts and releases the bacteria into the body for the other meds that you are on to kill. Thus creating a herx. Most LLMDs pulse Flagyl for the very reason that herxing can be really bad from it.

I often get a raging anxiety with accompanying insomnia shortly after starting a new medication. It's definitely a herx for me. It dies down only to pop back up during subsequent flares. Flagyl can be a tough one to take. I don't pulse it, but I'm on a fairly low dose for my weight.
