Mycoplasma pneumonia

Hey all!!

I got some blood work today and it says I tested positive for mycoplasma pneumonia. Anybody else get walking pneumonia while being treated for lyme? I have been off abx for a few weeks because of getting toxic...again, so I guess there would have been a chance for me to get it.. Although all I feel is a very mild sore throat...

Well I read that it can be treated with a lot of the same abx that we already take for lyme. What i your doctor using to treat it? I haven't spoken to my doctor yet, my lab just faxes me a copy of my blood work results the same time they send a copy to my doctor. So either he will probably give me a call on Monday, or I will call him. But I find it interesting that this short little while that I was ill was when I caught this, especially since I have been sick in bed most of the time. Is it possible to catch it while being on the very same abx that kill it??

I def agree with you when you say that with so many infections, we never know what is causing what...

Interesting post. Last week, I found out my cat (who I suspect is the culprit that dragged in the tick that bit me) tested positive for 3 different mycoplasmas that are contracted from fleas. The vet said he tested negative for Bartonella, but that they used to call this form of mycoplasma in animals Bartonella. She said it's not what caused my Bartonella. However, when I was tested for Bartonella, not by traditional means but by Dr. F in Arizona, my blood shows a Bartonella-like infection. My LLNP at the time said that it would be a waste of money to find out exactly which strain it is since it would all be treated the same anyway.

However, I have chronic sinusitis and I have had swollen glands/lymph nodes off and on throughout this ordeal. Samjones, I did do some research to see what medications they use to treat mycoplasma and you are right, it's pretty much all the same meds we take for Lyme and the various co-infections anyway. But I'm wondering if I should get tested for it anyway? Also, in my particular case and the type of mycoplasma that is passed from animals it says it is generally inhaled while cleaning the litter box much the same as toxoplasmosis. But it makes me wonder, obviously if it was a flea that gave it to the cat, wouldn't it make sense that a tick that bit the cat then bit me could pass it in that way as well?

I have to see my LLMD this week anyway so I will ask her if she thinks it is worth it to test for it. Samjones if I come up with any new information that I can share I will certainly do so.

Thanks for asking about Heather. She is doing very well. She is doing well enough to have secured a swimming scholarship and will be going to college next year. The mycoplasma infection was from a few years ago. There are absolutely no symptoms from her previous Lyme and coinfections. We are just fine tuning at this point for sports performance.

Thats some interesting stuff. I have 3 cats. They are all always indoors, but my youngest kitten was recently brought to a spay/neuter clinic, where she could have picked up anything, although that would mean that I began producing antibodies the next day (thats when I got the blood work), which could probably actually happen...

I read that this doesn't usually get dangerous, but at the same time I read that it could. It seems that it can be a precurser to RA, which I have the homozygous gene for. Seems this mycoplasma could last around for years and really get into the joints. Feels like another thing to watch.. lol. Just put it on the list.

As Justascarf has said, "Walking pneumomia" can be caused by a common coinfection of Lyme - Mycoplasma. This is an interesting article that not only discusses Mycoplasama infections, but look at this co-infection and what role it may play in many diseases:

I've had Mycoplasma Pneumonia so many times, it's not funny.

I was in grad. school, and teaching, and my doctor said I was getting it from my students.

That was right about the time I had the first bull's-eye rash.

Strangely, I tested negative for it, but recently, I had the high fever, coughing, asthma, and decreased air sounds in one lung.

Long story short, how do you treat Mycoplasma with natural medicine?

One thing is near constant congestion, repeated sinus infection, pressure, nasal drip, sore throat, headache....not a doctoe just sharing from reading and my experience.

I had mycoplasma while trying to conceive my first child. Had no idea that I had it. I was having a hard time conceiving and my cycles were really crazy. The Dr. Tested me and I came back positive. I went on antibiotics and got pregnant that month! The only thing I noticed that might have been mycoplasma related is that I would get these white things in my tonsils. The ENT Dr. Had no idea why I was getting it. Even did a Chest X-ray. I believe it was from the Mycoplasma. I started getting it again when I got Lyme and asked my Dr. To test me for mycoplasma but it came back negative.

Roxie, those are exactly the symptoms I have. My allergist no longer knows what to do, bc the allergy shots didn't help. Every winter, I get bronchitis. In 2009, I had a nasty, wet cough that lasted for months. When I was in my twenties, I had bronchitis for one year, and my doctor said I had chronic bronchitis, and I just had to wait it out. I used to be wracked with coughing, and sometimes would have to bend over to get it out. One of my students called me, "walking bronchitis." Of course, it didn't help that I was in a bad relationship and overworked. As I said, I used to get walking pneumonia a lot too.

So, can you or Marie or someone give me a clue on how to treat it with natural stuff? I can't take abx at present.

Teregram I use to get bronchitis so many times a year and sinus infections more. I never got off the white cap for my allergy shots (white cap because I reacted to the most diluted blue cap and it had to be diluted more so white cap put on bottle). After a year of two shots every two weeks I never got out of the white bottle. At that point had no faith in the dr. She was also abusive. When they did the skin test I was treated like a circus side show laying face down on the table while she had her staff come into the room to view the reaction. I should have sold tickets for the viewing to help recoup my expenses. At one point she yelled at me for having cats. And I made the point that when she tested me cats tested at 3 out of 5. Dust was a 5+ out of 5 along with many other stronger allergies and yet she wanted me to get rid of animals I rescued that fell much lower on the list of things im allergic to. If I were to eliminate all that I would be allergic to I would haveto exit from life and live in a bubble. Looks like I ended up there after all. I am so allergic to dust I can be ill for days just vacuuming.

I had the red blisters from allergy testing as well. The doctor didn't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for me, bc I was allergic to everything I was tested for, except for chocolate and cockroaches.

So you know the conclusions my friends drew: Eat chocolate-covered cockroaches!

I think I'm just going to try to keep myself as free of dust, mold, and dog hair as I can, and that's about it.

Unfortunately Roxie, once you're allergic to mold, it doesn't go away.

Unfortunately for me, chocolate is sure-fire trigger for migraines.
