Severe neck pain, should I be concerned?

Hey guys! First of all I want to apologize for staying away from the forum for so long. I found a job working from home (hooray!!), and it's keeping me pretty busy. Every time I log on to check on everyone, I get distracted and don't get to post, but I've been thinking about you guys. I'm going to spend some time catching up on everyone's posts. :)

Anyway...I started getting neck pain when I started working again (a few weeks ago), and I just assumed it was caused by holding my head at the same angle while working on the computer. Actually I work on my iPad, sometimes I have to lay down and hold it up to read because the neck pain gets so intense!!!

Well the past few days it has gotten increasingly worse. Today I've felt like I was on the verge of a migraine all day. It hurts to move my head. I talked to my sister and she said maybe I should get it checked out (she mentioned meningitis). Then I read that it (meningitis) is more common in people with chronic illness and can be associated with Lyme disease. Then again, I know neck pain is also a major symptom with Lyme & Co.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I've finally been referred to a pain specialist, so I'm just trying to "get by" unitl my appt in 2 weeks (the referral was actually 7 weeks ago....ugh!!). I can probably get a refill on my muscle relaxers to help unitl I start pain management.

But, if there's a possibility that there is something more serious going on, I suppose I'll suck it up and brave the ER (again).

Lymer do you have a fever? That is a very major symptom with meningitis I know with Lyme a fever can be 99 depending on how your body temp normally runs. I would be listen to my body but severe neck and shoulder pain is very common with Lyme. If you get a fever along with the stiff neck or multiple symptoms dizziness, loss of vision etc then go to the ER! Good luck and I hope it is just another symptom. Sending positive thoughts!! turn

Severe neck and shoulder pain is a daily issue for me - but if there's indeed a fever, if you're not able to put your chin on your chest, if you're nauseous, if you're vomitting, you should go to the ER.

Lyme meningitis is a serious issue, just as 'regular' meningitis, only the Lyme meningitis is cause by Lyme of course!

As the others are saying, if you have any of the severe symptoms of meningitis, go to the emergency room!

Otherwise, as the others have both said, severe neck and shoulder/upper back pain are part of Lyme disease for many of us.

I use OTC Salon Pas patches and they help tremendously. I have neck/back injuries from car accidents from 08 and 2012 but lyme could be a factor now. I had the first car accident several years before lyme dx.
