Confused by Igenex results and statement on CDC website

Hi all,

I have been diagnosed with Lyme Disease and have been on antibiotics treated by an LLMD for 5 months now. I had symptoms for a year before I was tested and diagnosed. I read the following on the CDC website today and it concerned me greatly. My Igenex results are posted below. Is it possible that I don't have lyme disease? Can anyone help shed any light on this? Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!!!!

CDC Website:
The IgM Western Blot test result is only meaningful during the first 4 weeks of illness. If you have been infected for longer than 4-6 weeks and the IgG Western Blot is still negative, it is highly likely that the IgM result is incorrect (e.g., a false positive). This does not mean that you are not ill, but it does suggest that the cause of illness is something other than the Lyme disease bacterium.

Not necessarily. Lyme is very good at hiding its own antibodies so the whole test is somewhat irrelevant.

I wouldn't listen to the CDC. If that were the case then none of us would have Lyme as almost all test positive only on the IgM if at all.

Even my first doc I saw which was an infectious disease doc admitted that the IgM antibodies can remain for a year or so and we know how great ID docs are.

Hello,

Please look at the link below. It is from someone's blog on their lyme journey. The page shows this persons test results. They were postive for IgM and negative for IgG. The page also shows the various responses from various health practitioners. Upon review, you will see that their GP basically had the same comment as you quoted from the CDC above.

This person took their GP's statement to a well known lyme doctor and got his opinion on the doctor's comment. The doctor explained the biology behind why a long term (i.e. not 'new') infection can show positive IgM with negative IgG. I think it answers your question very well.

I hope this information will help you. There is so much conflicting information out there. When I read this explanation, it made sense to me.

No, it's a bunch of BS (sorry, no other way to put it). It doesn't matter if it's IGG or IGM. If you have symptoms, you still have an active lyme infection and need treatment until all symptoms subside.

ive read bartonella can get rid of your antibodies
img and igg fluctuates as lyme has lifecycles too.
im sorry, but you have lyme.

I agree with the responses. Arualb1313, my husband was diagnosed - by one of the top neurologists in Oregon - with ALS last summer and if I didn't do some research on this diagnosis he wouldn't be getting better. Lyme mimics many conditions and this one is one of them. He was tested by Igenex and it came out positive. Now, being that people with ALS do not get better, one would assume he is improving due to treatment for Lyme. Now, his symptoms started over two years ago so what they say wouldn't make sense. The CDC doesn't recognize Chronic Lyme so of course, as with many in the medical field, they would say that. It's sad because so many people won't be treated because of being misinformed. It's your call, but if I were you, I would keep up treatment with the LLMD or find an alternative approach and see if you improve.
