Cefdinir/Omnicef and Azithromycin Combo-Why not Doxy?

Hi there,

I've been on a Cefdinir/Omnicef and Azithromycin Combo for six months now and I'm wondering if anyone else is on this regimen. I've been doing a lot of research lately and have read that Doxycycline is the most common antibiotic for lyme patients and I don't see Cefdinir mentioned anywhere. Before I insult my doctor by asking why this abx and not Doxycycline, I thought I would ask this forum to see if anyone has any insight.

Cefdinir is used often. It's also a good med for Lyme. It's similar to Rocephin which is the most common IV Lyme med.

Zith is also good but sometimes doctors combine it with Plaquenil to increase it's effectiveness.

There is a doxy shortage right now and it also causes severe sun reactions and GI trouble in some people. If you can avoid it in the summer that's a good thing. It will save your skin from horrible burning.
