Tick bite that won't heal

I got bit by a tick a few months ago and when I found the tick there was the spot where the tick bit me and a few red inflamed spots surrounding the bite and the whole thing itched soooo bad. Well after a week or so the spots around the bite healed and went away and it all became less itchy but now the actual bite won't heal. It's just a small red area that doesn't get worse but doesn't go away and that is periodically itchy. I found a few accounts of people on the Internet describing the same sort of thing and they say they have had it for over a year some of them say!! What would cause this? Some have even been put on antibiotics but it didn't make the spot go away.

My shoulder where I was originally bitten nearly 2 years ago still has phases when it tingles.

I did ask why but noboby here could tell me the reason for this.

I had the same problem with the tick bite that wouldn't heal. I saw a dermatologist and she recommended Cordran Tape which is prescribed. its like scotch tape with medicine. My bites healed within a week and have not returned. Hope this helps.

It's called a tick bite granuloma. See you doctor and get tested for lyme disease (although this skin condition is not caused by lyme disease).

I got a tick bite summer of 2011 in Maryland. By January of 2012 I still had a nickel sized lump that itched like crazy and got worse after scratching. When topical steroids had no effect, my doctor cut the granuloma off. For a year the area would itch and swell if I scratched it. After a year of doing my best not to touch it the area is flat and no longer itches.

I was recently bitten by another tick in Florida and I've had the same reaction. It's been four months and the granuloma is still growing and itching. This time it goes through cycles of scabbing over and oozing yellow fluid. I've convinced my new doctor that the only method is to cut it off and wait.

I have found that icing the area numbs the itch away completely. So when you get the itch, ice it! I place one ice cube in a plastic bag, place it on the area and pull my socks up to keep it in place. I'm sure you could use an ace bandage or other means to keep the ice in place. I'm no doctor, but I know there are some rules to icing your skin - ice for 10-20 minutes only and never place ice directly on the skin (wrap in paper towel or whatever).

Same, I had a tick a few months ago and was removed, (ripped off) the small circulate bite wound was surprisingly defined and a small counter sunk wound. I iremoved before the 24hr bingo date for Lyme disease but ever since I have a slightly scabbed over bite and if scratched it bleeds a bit, it doesn’t itch but just won’t seem to heal. I’m thinking there was an enzyme in tick drool that prevents it healing.
