I have been asked to share about
this diet so I will do my best! I have been on this diet for about
9 months now. It has finally started to help my gut. I have severe SIBO small intestinal bowel overgrowth. I was tested in August of last year.
I believe that it is sort of a new test. After the 3 months prior to the test I was put on the strong amount of abx for lymes and well lets say my stomach was horrible. The yeast was over the top. So my LLND said we need to see what is going on here.
I forgot to tell you my General Drs. had placed me on nexium for 10 years! This was there answer to my stomach pain for them. But guess what nexium is addictive and so this has made my lymes love my gut. So now we are trying to get me off this stuff by doing the Gaps diet.
Which is a hard diet. I drank broth for 5 months that was about all my stomach would allow. You have to boil a whole organic chicken for about 24hrs or 12. The idea is to get the meal from the chicken bones so you cook it a long time. You also add carrots, celery and onion. What ever spice you like. and don't forget the 1/4c. vinegar.
Your house will smell like chicken and about make you sick after you do this for many months. After you cook it you cool it and store it in freezer and drink with every meal. Do not skim the fat off. You need the fat. It helps to heal the gut and aid in digestion.
You then can eat the soft meat and soft veggies too. This is what I have lived on. It was do or die starving.
My LLND says we are starving the bad bacteria in my gut. So it does cause me to herx in the beginning.
I now have been able to not drink broth 24-7 and have it about once a week. I still cook all meat till super soft and only eat cooked veggies.
The book to buy for this diet is called.........Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD
This book was written because the ladies daughter had Crohn's disease and the Dr. told her there was no hope and she was just going to die. But the mother Dr. said no way and came up with this diet.
It is a very good book and full of tons of information about the gut and all the diseases that start there. It also has recipes and step by step instructions.
Sorry so long just thought I would pass on the information. Since most of us have stomach issues with lymes like me.
Hope this is helpful to someone....................Andy
