Hi all,

I'm curious about some recent liver enzyme test results and was looking for some extra opinions...

My ALT and AST were both very high the last time I tested them. I spent the past 2 weeks on Minocycline as a test to see if I might have Lyme.

I just tested ALT and AST today and they're perfectly normal. Could that mean the antibiotics are working and that Lyme might have been keeping them elevated?

Antibiotics may elevate your ALT/AST tests whether or not you actually have Lyme. Normally, the doctors are just monitoring your liver to ensure there is no damage from the buildup of toxins.

That is why its important for you to be tested separately and specifically for Lyme, using tests like Western Blot, which is a better indicator.

Thanks, vcast. My doctor initially tested my liver enzymes before even thinking about Lyme. He was looking for clues in my blood tests as to what was going on.

I'm going to get tested soon. I assume I'm correct in going with IGENEX in California? I'll get my doctor to help me request the test and go from there. I don't think my doctor is that confident in the testing available, and preferred to see how I react to antibiotics first.
