Hi Rick,
I don't mean to add to your frustration, but it's better you know the facts starting out. Most insurance companies will not pay for treatment for 'chronic Lyme' as the CDC (Center for Disease Control) follows the guidelines of the IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America). You'll find out about the hypocrisy and dishonesty involved soon enough. Neither of these organizations believes in chronic Lyme disease. As such, there is no diagnosis code for chronic Lyme which allows the insurance companies to get away with refusing payment. If you indeed have Lyme disease, and it certainly sounds as though you do, being ill for 5 or 6 years puts you in the chronic stage of the disease. You'll have to check with your insurance company to be sure; but the chances are you won't have to get a referral as most Lyme patients end up paying out of pocket for treatment.
Sorry to add this to your problems, but again, if your insurance won't pay, you'll save yourself a lot of time not having to wait on your doctor for a referral.

Thanks jupitergma,
No worries adding to the frustrations I've gotten pretty used to it over the last few years.
It does help make sense with all the resistance though.
It also make sense about the cronic Lyme I had deeply embeded ticks a couple times 8-10 yrs ago
with no bullseyes that i know of but did'nt really pay much attention to them because Lyme it was'nt as main stream back then as it is now.
But I certainly dont want start taking meds or treatments without knowing for sure and make things even worse than they are now.
All good advice going forward though and THANK YOU for that.
