Son with lyme

Hello,

My son is being treated for lyme disease because of a bullseye rash on his back, he has also had a fever of around 102 only at night since Thursday evening.  He bean amoxicillian Saturday around 1pm and has been fine all day and playing with his brother.  I am concerned because he seems to be a bit warm this evening and is saying that his neck is stiff, he is only 5 1/2 so its hard to understand exactly what hurts and how bad.  I was wondering if this was typical for a lyme infection and the antibiotics would kick in soon or if I should take him back to the doctors. ( He can move his neck in all directions)

 

How is your son Cas? Did you call the doctor? I agree with Summer. You don't want to take any chances with young children.

Welcome to our little community! I'm so very sorry to hear that your son is ill.

Please be sure that you are using a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD), as the other doc's really aren't 'up' on all the scientific info on these diseases and the best way to treat them so that there is a much less of a chance that there will be a relapse. If you need help in finding a LLMD, please ask! Many here are willing to share that information. You will need to enable your email address through your profile though, as we don't allow Dr's names and contact info to be shared on the forum. We have to protect our docs - many of them have had their license taken away or practices shut down just for treating us with medicines in the doses that actually work!

If you haven't yet, it would be helpful for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of important information, symptom lists (as Lyme rarely occurs by itself), helpful links and pdf's, how to detox when one has these infections, and a list of questions that you can ask any doctor that you are seeking treatment from!

As Springsjean said, stiff neck and fever are very common symptoms of Lyme.

You will need to be prepared for his symptoms to possible increase and even new ones to show up. This is very typical of Lyme as well. It's called a 'herx'. In the "New to Lyme?" thread is a section describing how to detox naturally. I would highly suggest that you get your son -even as young as he is - to get started on these methods. Also get him to drink as much water as possible to help his kidneys, lymph system, liver and more flush those toxins that are being created as the bacteria die off. These are what drive a 'herx' - the body is being overwhelmed with toxins from these bacteria.

We also have a pretty good search function on this forum to help you narrow down your search for information from past posts. We must be our own health advocates now and the best thing to arm yourself with is knowledge about our infections and the different ways to treat them!
