Hi ToddPaul,
Sorry you are not feeling great... I honestly don't remember saying that Dr. J's botanicals are formulated so one does not herx. I didn't herx but that was me. I also think everyone has their own definition of what a herx feels like.
It's possible (as you know I'm not a doctor!), that you may be going through withdrawals from the abx. If you read this Townsend Letter by Dr. J. he states that abx creates viruses in the bacteria thus changing the bacteria.
Here is the article:
http://www.townsendletter.com/April2007/antibioticlyme0407.htm
Do you have Dr. J's book "Beating Lyme"? That explains so much. Also, I have a friend (she is one of the many people who first mentioned Dr. J. to me as I never heard of him before) who had a rough time transitioning to Dr. J's protocol after taking abx.
She wrote this (I know she wouldn't mind):
"I think timing is very important. I tried a few times in the past to get
off the antibiotics and I just couldn't do it. Within a week my head was
spinning and the joint pain was unbearable. My body just was not ready to do it
on it's own and I didn't know what to do. There is so much to learn about the
way our bodies work and about lyme disease and how it affects the many body
systems we count on for life. It's such a long road to wellness when you have to
put all the pieces together and try to figure out what is going on inside you.
I was sick for decades and lyme had a hold of every part of me. It had a
long residence in my body and plenty of time to make major changes. It took so
long just to set myself back on track and get strong. Sometimes we can get so
frustrated, especially when people say unhelpful things like, "aren't you better
yet? What are you doing wrong? Don't you think you should try another doctor or
something? I'm tired of helping you." I don't care how you slice it, if you've
had lyme disease for 25 years like me, you aren't going to get better in a week.
It's a project and when you tackle it, you tackle it in stages. Track
the progress, keep a journal and keep on doing the right thing. Don't grow weary
in doing well, just keep moving forward.
There are a lot of deceitful
marketing schemes out there, selling products from medicines and protocols, to
supplements and diets that are all so far from what we really need. The
medication industry, the insurance industry, they are just what the call
themselves--industry. Businesses.
Today I can say I am finally doing
well. Yesterday I cleaned my house and made a big lasagna dinner. Today I worked
in the office, took care of some paperwork at DMV and had a closing on a
business loan, then cooked some cube steaks and homemade scalloped potatoes. I'm
happy, my hubby is so content these days too to see me back working with him.
I'm just going to keep taking care of myself, eating right, detoxifying and
getting the sleep I need.
I hope that some of this has been helpful to
someone."
She also wrote this:
"I'm happy to say that I'm done with antibiotics. I have been off them for a
month now, and I'm never taking them again. I am taking Dr. Jernigan's
borrelogen and neuro antitox three times a day, and I am eating right and
taking care of myself. I finally have my life back.
I feel pretty good, a few minor things that I have to
address once in a while, but nothing I can't live with. I am definitely living
my life fully and doing the things that I need to do. I can work, exercise,
garden, golf, read, drive the kids around all day and walk the whole
mall if I have to, etc.
There are two things I can't do anymore, but I
don't care. One is run (jogging) I just can't do that right now because it makes
my heart pound like mad, and the other is eat junk, but I don't miss that at
all.
I realize now that I will likely always have lyme in my body, but I
don't have to have lyme disease. I don't have to have pain and fatigue and brain
fog if I regulate a few important things. The things I regulate are: my pH, my
body temperature, and my diet.
Taking antibiotics for so long made my
body into a war zone, and it is a battle I can't completely win. The die off and
the toxins were killing me and wrecking my quality of life because of the pain.
The yeast was getting a hold on me finally too, and I definitely don't want a
chronic candida problem on top of everything else. Bye bye antibiotics.
Every night I have a detox bath and I use essential oils to
address any aches or troubles. Oregano
is my favorite oil, but it's caustic if used straight so I have to dilute it
with a carrier oil like almond or jojoba. Essential oils are amazing! I have
about forty of them, and I use them all.
I eat live raw fruits and
vegs, nuts and grains throughout the day. Uncooked means lots of enzymes and
that is a great thing for staying healthy. I have some really good recipes, the
food is not boring and now that I've been eating this way, I love it. I drink
ginger tea, green tea, cinnamon tea, and lemon water. I eat organic foods and I
don't eat white sugar or white flour. At night I eat a cooked meal with my
family, but no pork and no shellfish because they are not really clean foods and
I don't want to subject my body to them. No deep fried foods either.
This is my
story, this is what's working for me right now. You who know me know that I
am not saying that I think people who take antibiotics are making bad choices or
doing something they shouldn't. Everyone has to follow their own path and find
out what they need and what they want to do. I just want you to know that I'm
doing this, and my life is good again. I'm going to keep doing this and teach my
kids how to do it too."
Months later she wrote that she could jog and do even more things!
I hope this helps and I hope you give this more time. I know having patience is very difficult.. Been there!
