I am curious if it is normal for a Doctor to script pain medications for the painful symptoms of lyme. I have been to my PCP limping in with every single muscle in my legs and arms hurting. Not to mention hot flashes and headaches. He indicated that until my doxy treatment was over he did not want to add more antibiotics (which makes sense). But, I have went to the ER with a migraine in my life and have been given pain meds for non chronic pain. I just can't see laying on my couch in agony all day as productive or functional. I feel they are treating me as a "drug" seeker. I would trade almost anything to not have had this happen to me. I just want to have my pain reduced enough to be able to cook meals again and interact with my family again without agony. Why is it it seems Doctors do not trust me or just do not think lyme is painful enough for the meds? can you please tell me if pain meds (controlled substances) are used with this disease?
Thanks in advance.
Kathy

Dear Cathy,
I lived in pain for years from my Lyme until I was introduced to a wonderful pain management doctor who realized my pain was real and that it was terrible. She not only prescribed pain meds but muscle relaxers and something so I could sleep some at night. Finally I had something to take the edge off so I could function but unfortunately I lost my insurance so I can no longer see her but you may have to find a pain management doctor to help you. I'm sorry your in such pain and can most certainly relate! I hope you feel better soon.
Sincerely, LymelittLaura

Magnesium can relieve a lot of muscle pain.
Vitamin B12 and other B-complex vitamins are needed for nerve pain.
Homeopathy:
Hypericum - for nerve pain
Arnica - for any kind of pain or trauma
Causticum - helps with wandering leg pains, restless legs/joints sensations; works best if taken as close to onset of symptoms as possible.
Essential oils (topically applied):
Clove oil + Copaiba oil helps when I have a specific joint that is hurting (arthritic/inflammation)
Marjoram is good for soft tissue injury, especially muscle/tendon issues
Lemongrass is also excellent for tendon problems
Wintergreen is great for muscle/ligament pain
Peppermint can help with headaches
Thieves helps me with sinus pressure/pain
Essential oil blends (topically applied):
AromaSiez is good for muscle pain
PanAway is good for most any pain but also good for nerve pain.
Herbs:
Nettle Leaf helps keep general joint pain from Lyme away for me...Buhner recommends 1200mg/day for this purpose, in his "Healing Lyme" book.
Epsom salt bath soaks and heating pads also are very helpful for muscle or nerve pain.
