I read on wiki about herxing and tetracycline. Sounds scary and dangerous. The doc mentioned tetracycline the other day.
What are your thoughts on this?

They are scary and they do suck. Horribly. Luckily for me mine didn't last very long. And you don't really want them to last long at all. Keep antihistamines close by just in case. I had difficulty breathing the first round of doxy I went on and then after that I was fine.

Some folks have a harder time detoxing the dead bacteria so they follow special protocols. Otherwise, eat healthy drink lots and lots of water. When I was herxing this one time my body didn't mess around and told me to drink drink drink. I thought something was wrong with my kidneys as I was drinking more then a gallon of just water a day but it subsided a few days later.

Just be prepared that you might be in for a few tough days and if you are experiencing strange and scary symptoms you can always jump online here. Ohhh, I also recommend if you feel horrible and want to go to the hospital to try a walk in clinic instead unless you are pretty convinced its 100% emergency. Saves money and they will know right away if you need to go to the ER.

Also, if it is too much reduce the dose or stop the medicine immediately and contact your dr.

I still gotta go out and hang tree stands for this season oct1. The sun is going to be an issue and holding all the weiht of the stand and my body from 30' in a tree is going to be a problem. Its my only real hobby. Im not going to let it go. By the way anybody know if anyting can transfer from deer blood to a cut on a hand? 2 years ago had a cut and said to hell with it ill gut it anyway(:

Hi Brent,

I was on Tetracycline for about 4 months. I don't want to spoil things, but you really need to be careful with sun exposure. I took them during last winter. I had planned a beach holiday in Egypt and went off it a week before I left, on my dr's advice. Then restarted when I got back.

Yes, infected blood can transfer Lyme, Bart and Babesia from what I've read.

You MUST completely cover your skin and use a high SPF # sunscreen on your face & hands, plus wear a hat with a good brim to keep the sun off of your face if you are going to go out like that. You will likely sunburn much faster and more severe than you are used to while on Tetracyclines. I'm very familiar with hunting and what you will expose yourself to.

Be sure to use either Deet or clothing treated specifically with tick repellant while out there. I know what a hassle it will be, but you MUST drink plenty of water - allowing yourself to get even slightly dehydrated could spell trouble with detoxing.

Be sure to take your meds/herbs with you - don't miss a dose, even if you are sitting in a tree.

Plan for some recuperating time afterwards. No one can tell you how long you may need to rest - a good nap may work, or you could feel the effects for a couple of days.

Im convinced its from that 13 pointer i arrowed november 3rd 2011. Looking back at the pics my hands were covered in blood. Uselly i have gloves but not this time. All my symptoms starting when i disslocated my shoulder andhad a cervical adjuistment. Its bizarre! Disslocation happend feb.2012
