How long tick attached to transmit lyme?

I don't believe it was true to begin with, personally. When I was infected as a very young child (late 1960's early 1970's), my mom and my Grandmother both checked me from head to toe every night! And let me tell you, they were thorough!!!! So no tick got to stay on me for 24 hours, yet I had Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, and possibly more.


I don't believe that question has really been answered. Things vary from in the lab and in the wild with these diseases, so just because a study is done "in vitro" (roughly meaning "in the lab") may have nothing to do with the realities of these diseases.

Both before I was in effective treatment, and during the time I was in effective treatment I -of course- had ticks attach. Two of them caused a definite response - my symptoms increased within 2 - 3 hours of the time they attached.

It depends on the strength of the immune system, I would suspect, as to how long the body can resist the bacteria.

They have found a significant source of increased tick populations is this invasive plant. It has a lot of prickers on it but I can't for the life of me remember the name. Basically - open sun deters ticks.  They need moisture. They also do not like to cross gravel barriers for whatever reason. So make sure to put your kids swingset in a bright sunny spot and you should be pretty good!

You can also apply a low dose insecticide around the perimeter of your lawn in the early spring. It only needs to be done twice in a season. Though a lot of folks are completely against toxic things.

Also, there are a lot of deer near where we will live does that increase the tick population? I have alsways heard of the connection and the "deer tick" but it is confusing. At any rate, either way we ARE moving to this place- a lovely large plot with a big field right next to some woods. And I will mow mow mow and keep oour yard as low and clean as I can and also put gravel.

I am also a gardener- have been for over a decade-- have not gardened much in the last few years due to a temporary living situation, but hope to garden in our new place. Hopefully the gardens will not attract them.

I never had a problem in previous yrs w- ticks in the garden but it feels like in the past 3-5 years the gross things have just exploded everywhere. I used to walk in the woods every day and never got a tick. It was only in brush that people would get them. Now people get them in the woods. tragic.

I keep hearing how people need to be informed, and how people need to treat early.

Yet here I am, doing EVERYTHING I possibly can to try to respond to my possible tick bite from sept 25th, and I STILL have no idea what to do!

I cannot seem to get any clear answers anywhere and it is scary to me.

So I come to these forums but am Still completely confused.

I never saw a tick on me, just a bite with a small-ish rash that went away the next day. I started on the doxy the first night and maybe that made the rash go away. The doxy made me super sick so I stopped after ten days.

I am now on the herbs and am now sick from either a die off of lym or the herbs or something else.

And I am still so confused about how I am supposed to treat this.

There is apparently no clear test I can take to see if I even have lye-- or maybe there is one 600dolar test? I am not sure? I have seen a "lyme specialist" two times and am still unclear. I am SO SO SO frustrated and scared.

People say treat early but what treatment am I supposed to do? The "lyme specialist"says the cowden herbs are the best treatment., yet here on this forum I hear no one talking about that protocol.

Other people say lots of antibiotics are the best treatment, but then others say people have been treated with lots of antibiotics and still have the lyme.

Please, someone tell me what to do.

Also-- are there other rashes that look similar to a lyme rash? Or if I had a rash with a bite at all is that definitely a lyme rash? some people say a tick bite does not mean it is lyme, others say a tick bite does mean it is lyme.

I am the mom of a young child and I just want to do th right thing now and be healthy but I don't know whatto do. I have been on the herbal protocol for 11 days and yesterday got sick. I am giving myself one day (today) off the herbs to give my body a chance to feel better. I am thinking I will send the 600 dollars to get whatever test will actually tell me if I have it or not, but do I haveto wait 30 days after the antimicrobial herbs to even take that test?

I tried to call dr Horowitz's office to get some CLEAR answers, and have called about 8 times. They called back once and my husband took a message :( ( he didn't know they dont' answer the phone)

Please tell mw what to do this is making me very unhappy.

I want to do what I must now to ensure my future health- so someone, tell me clearly, please- what treatment do I do now? Everyone says, be educated, be informed, treat early-- but no one tells me WHAT do do.

thank you for your clear response!! I still have doxy (and actually amoxycillan too) that I was prescribed originally.

So now I am somewhere around 5 or 6 weeks from the bite.

I dont' even know if it was lyme to begin with.

I am willing to go through antibiotics again if it will help me stay healthy for the future. Given that I did 10 days of doxy from the start, then 11 days nothing, then 10 days herbs, how many days ofdoxy should I do now?

and should I get any kind of test first to make sure I even have this thing before I start putting that all into my body?

I am going to start amoxycillan today. the dosage on the bottle says one pill two times a day- the pills are 500mg's.

Do other people think this is a good approach?

the last time I took the doxy I got so sick it was scary- I threw up quite violently form a 200 mg dose.

I am s sick of worrying about this and taking these herbs while possibly things are growing in me. I want to knock this out. I hope I am still in the early stages. ugh. I hate this.

okay. All advice welcome- do you guys think taking 30 days of amoxy is a good choice for me right now?
