I have been in treatment for 9 months now and rifampin/zith combo for about 3 months. Why would I all of the sudden be anxious? I feel better in SO many ways and then this crops up. Before I started treatment anxiety was an issue but it has been gone so long I thought it was over. I am looking for any advice or experiences...thanks!

Do you have Bartonella too?

I ask because my severe anxiety (and even more severe anger issues) apparently fluctuate with my Bartonella flareups. Ive noticed a tremendous decrease in the severity and frequency of these mood problems when I was on Rifampin, but they STILL occur.

I thought this was all coincidence until I accidentally stopped taking the Rifampin and literally all of these mood disorders came back. Does anyone know why Rifampin works so well?

Sometimes after one infection has been treated, another infection will rear it's ugly head. It looks like you are currently treating Bartonella with the rifampin/azithro combo. It may have taken a while for it to come out and begin dying off. I've been in treatment for Bart for 3 months and just recently my anxiety began getting worse too. Hopefully it will go away as quickly as it came!

vcast- I don't know why rifampin works so well, but man I herxed so bad my doctor took me off! It's serious stuff, but it does the job for sure!

Thanks guys! I took rifampin very very slow. One day I upped the dose and broke out in fever and sweats! I still feel like full dose is too much but I want to kill the bugs! I am determined not to go on leviquin...scared to death.

I just don't understand flares...I figured once you herx you should be getting better from that point on!

Thats really weird because I dont ever recall Herxing on Rifampin at all. At least nothing like the severe Herxing I get on IV ABXs.

If anything, I consider Rifampin the Congnac of the ABXs: smooth and delightful lol
