Hello everyone, it was exactly one year ago that I started to experience some of the hardest times of my life aka the onset of my neurological lyme symptoms. My symptoms included Bell's palsy, allergic reactions, extremity numbness and tingle, severe cognitive deficits (anxiety, no focus, depression), complete exercise intolerance, debilitating fatigue, stiff neck, thyroid issues and the list goes on and on. Let me remind you before January 2013 I was a healthy, motivated and energetic 20 year old. I was an athlete since a young age and also a scholar. I was in my first trimester of graduate school at Palmer College of chiropractic the time my prominent symptoms hit me like a brick wall. The last year has been more difficult then I could ever imagine some of the issues I faced were passing classes, being social, maintaining relationships and also helping people understand what I've been going through. At times I thought I was going to die and quit but where I am now is incredible and I wanted to share some of the things I have done to start feeling better.
1. Keep your faith and don't give up, you can and will get better. With proper knowledge and help from doctors you can create health in your life again.
2. Establish relationships with people you love and can talk to about your experiences.
3. Create a vision board. Where do you want to be with your health? Make short term goals leading to long term goals. This will help you focusing on healing your body and the universe responds to persistent focus.
4. Diet.. Since I started my antibiotic therapy I have eaten an organic diet, if my food contains meat it is once a day. Proper nutrition is essential for fueling your body. We need to start looking at our bodies as machines not dumping grounds. Our body metabolizes everything we put into it, put FUEL in it. I call my morning smoothies rocket fuel :).
These are the things that have helped bring me back to health along with my treatment. My treatment is iv antibiotics 100mg doxycycline twice a day for 4-6 weeks and then we will reevaluate, probiotics, transfer lymfactor, a whole food concentrate multivitamin, and one of the most important parts of my healing process, my upper cervical chiropractic care (NUCCA). I want to give a brief explanation of NUCCA care since it has been so vital to my healing. Chiropractic is not a treatment for any condition, I repeat chiropractic is not a treatment. Chiropractic recognizes the body is intelligent, self healing and self maintaining. Thru this recognition chiropractors align the structural abnormalities within the spine so the body will experience and express PROPER FUNCTION. Proper spinal alignment brings normality to the nervous system and balances the body allowing it to do what god intended it to do, heal. I encourage all of my fellow lymies to get their spines checked to make sure their body is functioning at its greatest potential. To find a NUCCA doctor in your area you can go to www.nucca.com and search.
I am 3 weeks in my antibiotic therapy and I have started actually attending class again, being social with my friends again and I am generally happy!!! I cannot stop smiling if I tried. I hope this brings hope or useful information to someone! Have a good day.
