I was diagnosed with Lyme disease almost 4 years ago. Underwent treatment with Doxy. Symptoms cleared up. Last year symptoms reappeared and was treated again. Symptoms abated. Few months ago started with symptoms again. Went to infectious disease doc because the doctor who diagnosed me no longer in area or insurance. She tested for numerous things including Lyme. All negative. The only thing that was reactive was band 23 IgG. What does this mean since I have many of the symptoms yet again? confused

I believe it's the outer surface protein specific to Borrelia. The lyme bacterium. It's lyme specific.

IgG band 23 is very specific for Lyme. No other known organism triggers your body to create this.

An infectious disease or CDC trained doctor will likely ignore you, but this is EXACTLY why you need a real expert. The "G" in IgG indicates an infection that probably (but not always) occurred in the past and may or may not explain the symptoms you have now. This is exactly why I would recommend finding a LLMD who can look deeper and evaluate your symptoms.

Out of curiosity, what are all of your symptoms? Did you have a non-positive/negative "IND" on any other bands?

Hi Chester - I also wanted to ask who conducted your test? Some labs (like Igenex) are much more sensitive than others and can reveal additional, important positive bands.

Hi, I went to infectious disease doctor at Crystal Run Healthcare. As best as I can tell the tests were run there. It does not indicate on these papers that the Western Blot was done at Igenex lab. Here are the results

18,28,30,39,41,45,58,66,93 kd IgG nonreactive

23 kd IgG reactive

39 kd IGM nonreactive

My symptoms are:

Joint pain and some swelling--knees, ankles, feet, wrists, hands, fingers elbows
stiff neck / cracking neck
headache
chills
tingling
night sweats
stabbing pains
weakness in wrists and grip, legs
skin thinning
little red dots on inner arms, thighs, stomach
veins in hands and breasts very blue and pronounced
eye pain
can't think of words
mood swings
cry easily
anxiety
hand tremors
ringing in ears
hair loss
sleep irregular (insomnia, can't stay asleep, sleep during day)
no sexual desire
weight gain
nausea
crazy amount of sneezing(sneezed all day yesterday & not at all today???)

Sounds very lyme like..... All mine were IgM but I didn't have a recent illness I could pinpoint and I had lyme symptoms forever so they called it a false positive, TWICE. I was CDC positive though... So weird. Infectious disease wouldn't even talk to me. There is so me explaination from what I understand that explains how someone within chronic lyme can have IgM instead of IgG antibodies even though it's not "early" infection. But yours are all IgG antibodies?

Welcome to our community!

I bet you never had more than a couple of months worth of antibiotic therapy did you? And did your dose ever go as high as 400 mgs or more a day? You likely still have an ongoing, chronic infection.

That treatment while typical from ID docs, is far from enough to battle this very complex bacteria. It's not like most bacteria in many ways - it doesn't live in the blood stream, but in tissues, organs, bones, collagen (boy it loves collagen!!), the brain and that. It only goes into the blood stream every 3 - 6 weeks to replicate, then it retreats back to the tissues and that. Unfortunately, we get too many members joining due to being under treated.

Yeah definitely sounds like Lyme (and possibly even Bart because of your mood swings and skin issues). In fact, just about all your symptoms are identical to mine before they hit me up with hardcore ABXs (I wasnt sneezing though)

So your symptoms and the band 23 in combination is a good indication you might have a flareup or relapse. Recommend you find a LLMD if you havent gotten one already.

I have always loved when docs would say "well it's not Lyme!" as if they knew what it was, when in reality they just don't want to admit that either they don't know what it is or they don't want to admit that it's Lyme! I've heard that one enough to make me want to punch the next one that says it!! devil

No. When I was originally diagnosed (by a LLMD no longer in my insurance or area) I was given Doxy. 200 mg per day for 2 months. Symptoms subsided. Then when symptoms returned I learned LLMD no longer around so I went to my family doctor (who thank god believes that you can relapse) and was give another course of Doxy same dosage. Symptoms again subsided. This time when they came back I went to the infectious disease dr. I had this last round of blood work which also showed prior EBV infection. She did not prescribe another course of Doxy but referred me to rheumy, which given the fact that I had been to one in March and all negative and just had blood work and all negative is most likely a waste of time. I don't know whether or not to cancel Rheumy and go back to family doctor or what. There are no LLMD's near me and even if I traveled they are not in my insurance. Can't afford the ridiculous initial visit and subsequent visit fees. Any thoughts?

What about asking members here if they know of a LLMD that is in your area? It sure wouldn't hurt to just see if there is one that you could go to.

I would agree with LearnLyme though - it might be good to use a natural approach because of the expense and trying to find a knowledgeable LLMD in your area. We have many members here that are healing with natural protocols - including myself, although I am healed now. I just stick around to bug everyone!! LOL!! smilewinkgrin

Thank you for the info on resveratrol. Is there a specific dosage that I should begin with and is there a specific brand you would recommend? Is there anything else I would need to take with that or just start with that? I would like your honest opinions....do any of you think I should bother keeping the appointment with the rheumy? All tests were negative. I would rather spend the money on natural products to fight the Lyme than waste on another doctor who will, no doubt, look at me like I am nuts.

Thank you for the info. I have coconut oil here and will start to take. I will also order the resveratrol. I am going to be 57 in Feb, but unless it is seronegative RA I don't think that is what it is. I have had the tests for RA, LUPUS, etc. at least 3 - 4 times and always negative. I had my thyroid checked (although she only ran TSH) and that came back 1.31. I don't know if it could still be thyroid even though TSH is fine. Would all symptoms totally disappear after a course of Doxy if it were RA?

hi there, I went and had the lyme test with 2 doctors one my nurse practitioner and one a toxicologist who said I did not have lyme. I did not believe them because I had a bull's eye rash, and I had done research on lyme. so I went to see a llmd and I was reactive on band 41 and inconclusive on several more bands. it also looked like I had babesia. I even went to an infectious disease doctor who said I did not have lyme

all i know that after 4 months of antibiotics, I will never believe I dont' have lyme disease. I am doing so much better. I was told I had fibromyalgia years ago, put on drugs unnecessarily which made me nuts. I suffered so long I ended up filing for disability and got it. but I am hoping now, I can go back to work after my lyme treatment.
