Personally, I like how herbs work with the body rather than like abx, which just kills things (LOL!).
Unfortunately, it's not likely that your GP will be willing to do much - they don't want to get caught in the middle of a very highly political fight.
Depending on where in the UK you are, we have a couple of members here that may be able to share with you which doctor they are seeing, or of course, you can use herbs and treat Holistically.
I used a protocol that's not well-known, but it worked for me. I used the "Chronic Tonic" that can be found on this site:
www.mistymeadows.org/wendy.htm Go to the tile marked "Lyme disease: A Practitioners Experience and Discovery" in that pdf, go to page 78 (or is it 77???) and you can see the herbs that I used. My practitioner had me make the tea differently though - same herbs in the same amount, just the prep was different. I'm 2 years post treatment for Lyme.
I used Houyttunia alone for my Bartonella infection and it worked well for me. I'm 2 years post treatment for Bartonella.
For my Babesia treatment, we were using all kinds of herbs and acupuncture to try to get it under control, so I'm not sure what actually worked - but I'm 1 year post treatment for Babesia now.
Many here are using either Cowden's (
www.nutramedix.ec/ns/lyme-protocol) protocol or Buhners (
buhnerhealinglyme.com/) and are having good improvements as well.
No matter what route your choose to use for treatment, I would suggest that you get started now with detoxing and getting your diet as "clean" as possible, drinking at least 64 ounces of lemon water a day - unless you have issues with muscle cramps, spasms, or twitches - the lemon increases these in many people.
