Optic Neuritis?

Wen you look it up on Internet it shows getting it with Lyme. I think Lyme and steroids is a bad combo even though I have had them in the past before I knew I had Lyme and didn't have any effect with the shots but when I took them orally I was in ER twice with severe chest pain which turned out to be acid reflux which I guess it's hard on your stomach.

I was told possibly I had glacoma but now I think Lyme had something to do with what was going on with my eyes.

I would see what others have to say since I am new to being diagnosed. Good luck

Some steroids suppress the immune system. You want your immune system to be active so it can kill the Lyme bacteria and anything else that you might be infected with.

There are instances where steroids will save your life or keep you from going blind. If that is the situation that you are in, then you have no choice but to take them. However, if you do have a choice, and if taking them is not critical, then you should avoid them for the reason stated above.

Ask any doctor about steroid use when you have a possible infection and you will get the same answer (or should) - it's not a good thing, as the steroids will allow the infection (even if you only suspect one) to spread, as Healing has said.

I would also agree with Healing in that sometimes steroid use is still unavoidable. If you have to choose between losing your eyesight or using the steroids, that would be a tough place to be!

What about starting Lyme treatment and then take the steroids? It'll help keep the Lyme infection under control while the steroids are being used.

Buhners herbal protocols are being used by a lot of members here - at least there would be quite a few that are using the same herbals and could help guide you.

I don't blame you for wanting to do whatever you need to in order to save your eyesight - I likely would as well! I just worry about the Lyme infection that you likely have and how hard it will be to heal once you use steroids if you aren't in treatment.

Thaank You Learn Lyme. The eye doc did many tets and took pics of my entire eye. The optic nerver is very inflamed and it has been worn down for lack of a better word. The vision problems are a huge issue for me. I'm glad to hear you had success. I hoep I do as well.
