Hi All,

I have a rash/inflammation problem just below my knee. GP said tendonitis, LLMD thought it might be gout. I took the medication, but it doesn't help, it gets worse.
So today I went to see my GP's colleague, and he didn't know what it was, maybe a kind of erythema caused by medication (the only new medication I started was burbur and banderol). Certainly no gout or tendonitis.

My question: he fixed me a consult with a dermatologist this late afternoon, cause he was really worried. if they want to give me a steroid cream, is it safe to use?
He already warned me that they might prescribe that.

I would not worry about it. They contain such a small amount of steroids in it that it won't affect your body much. It will be much worse if you don't attend to the injury below the knee.

You may also want to look into an ibuprofin-based topical cream. Ibuprofin is a non-steroidal NSAID and because it is applied localised to the skin versus ingesting it, it bypasses the stomach and thus, it doesn't have the side effects of Ibuprofen pills/capsules.

In the meantime you could apply bentonite clay pultices to it to see if you could get some relief, changing every two hours.

Please let us know what the dermatologist says.

The verdict: severe bacterial infection, Erysipelas/Cellulitis. One more day and they would have hospitalized me. She prescribed augmentin retard 4000 mg per day. If not better by sunday, I need to go to the ER for
IV abx.
I got scared when she asked me if I was living alone, in case things get worse.

Oh dear, that's scary. So glad you went in today. Any idea how you picked it up?

Fingers crossed the augmentin does the trick.
