Hello, My LLMD said there is a slight chance I may have a co-infection. She is seeing me again in 3 weeks. If I don't improve she may add on an antibiotic. Is that too long to wait to see what happens? And what is the most common co-infection antibiotic treatment, anyone know? Bc I am on doxycycline now, and I thought Mepron (rifampin) was commonly used, but it actually decreases the doxycycline concentration in the blood. Just a bit worried over here, bc a lot of my symptoms have subsided (thank goodness), but I am still stuck with the tingling in the feet in the morning and my arms are giving me trouble. Besides sore feet, are there any other clues to Bartonella? Thanks.

Oh, and I forgot to ask - a Bartonella symptom is "sore soles" - the bottom of my feet don't hurt, just the top, and it is mainly just an issue with tingling and numbness - that is more Lymes isn't it? That's probably why my Dr is holding off on treating me with 2 antibiotics to see how I do. What does everyone else think?

Mepron is actually a different drug than Rifampin. It's used for Babesia.

Tingling and numbness in the feet could be Bart as it loves the feet. In general, tingling can be caused by either Lyme or Bart. Many Bart symptoms don't come out until you start treatment. When I was put on Rifampin it brought out the red streak-mark rashes on my back and then I knew I was definitely dealing with a Bartonella infection. I also woke up with my throat on fire a few times which is a Bart symptom.

Other symptoms include sore ribs, shin pain, rashes of any kind including the cat scratches, swollen lymph nodes and neuro symptoms which can overlap with Lyme and other co-infections.

oh geez, that's right - mepron is atovaquone, LOL - I am a pharmacist, but haven't dispensed that drug in yrs, and I am getting all mixed up btwn the different coinfections and drugs that go with it - its so much to absorb in the brain!! Did you test positive for Bart? This is so tricky - since there are overlapping symptoms. I never had red streaky marks. Throat never really hurt that badly. And the tingling in my foot I think is related to the nerve on my left side bc its my left hand and arm that give me trouble too. But this morning was the first time my right arm started getting tinglely and numb. I think it is more unlikely than likely that I have a coinfection, but you never know.....This is so confusing!

My NP is fairly certain I have Bart and I have chronic sore throats, for years. I have bad foot pain, and my ribs hurt when I am hugged. I have really weird rashes that come out especially after Epsom sale baths. Mine isn't bring treated right now I am only on 3000mg qd of amoxicillin. I'm waiting for an LLMD. I'm
Not sure on the meds but I don't think 3 wks is a long time to wait. My LLMD appt isn't till sept. That's a dang long time when you are hobbled. I hope the dr treated it and it responds quickly to whatever regimen is implemented. I'm glad you are at least not seeming to have too many symptoms right now.

you are right, Maine - 3 weeks is nothing compared to how long so many of you have to wait. I am guessing there must be more LLMDs out here in NY than other states. It shouldn't be that way though =(

Another sign of Bart is increased CNS symptoms. I hope that you find your answers soon though!!

the only CNS symptoms I had were insomnia and anxiety, but they both went away after a few weeks before the end of the yr, and before I even knew I had Lyme. That's why I am suspicious I may not have Bart. The foot thing is the only symptom I have that matches Bart, and Lyme shares that one too. Just have to wait it out and see I guess.
