Prescribed Toothpaste for Extra Sensitive Teeth

Hello everyone! My teeth were sensitive to begin with for years as I had braces on and didn't get my teeth properly cleaned (I went to a jacked up dentist at the time).

Anyway my current dentist knows I have Lyme and that my teeth are extra sensitive. So he gave me a prescription for Prevident by Colgate. It's for those who are extra sensitive and Sensodyne just isn't working.

If you have those problems call your dentist or even ask your doctor to write a prescription. It's pretty cheap too with insurance.

Is that toothpaste with lots of fluoride in it? I am trying to get dental work done so that I can get off Sensodyne because I don't want to be brushing with a toothpaste with fluoride. Sensodyne has a ton of fluoride.

If you want a sensitive toothpaste with no fluoride this is an excellent brand. I use them too:

I stopped using toothpaste (!) 3 years ago now - use only baking soda. The amazing thing is what my dentist and hygienist say every 6 months when I'm there for my teeth cleaning. They always comment on how healthy my gums are (I never heard this when I used toothpaste!)! I've had no cavities in this same 3 year period either. My DH who has always had chronic dental "stuff" (cavities, root canals, etc.) stopped using toothpaste too and made the switch to baking soda shortly after I did. He also hears how healthy his gums are and most amazing ... not ONE SINGLE issue (cavity, root canal, etc) for him since he made the switch 2 1/2 years ago!

We still have not told our dentist because we're sure he would be alarmed that we're not using toothpaste/fluoride, etc.

We couldn't be happier and our gums and teeth sure seem to be doing fine!

Kathleenta thanks for sharing you baking soda success. I wouldn't tell my dentist either. I don't think the ADA approves any toothpaste without fluoride. Which to me is confusing when the Journal of the American Medical Association published an article stating that fluoride actually destroys teeth, especially in babies and young children. Yet doctors and dentists still recommend putting fluoride tablets in water for children.
Harvard has linked it to bone cancer, the Lancet called it a neurotoxin, it has been shown to cause kidney damage in mice and the NRC claims it impairs proper thyroid function and damages the endocrine system. Water fluoridation is banned in most of Europe and Japan. I hate brushing my teeth with regular toothpaste and the natural stuff has polysaccharides that are bacteria made from sugar.
I will be trying your baking soda, from a hopefully good source.
Sorry I went on a rant. I am in a lot of pain and it's ramping up and I am trying to distract myself.

i am obsessed with Earthpaste lemon flavor. It's for kids but I use it and LOVE it! it's so good i could eat it and the best part, I could eat it, there is nothing poisonous in it!!!!!

Any other home remedies for painful or sensitive teeth?

My dentist wanted to give me a fluoride treatment, of all things!!!

He said that people from places like Asheville (trendy city, while I live in a small, rural town) are against fluoride, but Really, "it doesn't hurt you. I told him that in that case, I didn't want the fluoride treatment.

He looked surprised.
