could this be a herx?

The past month and a half my symptoms have hit me like a ton of bricks. I went to the ER and multiple doctors and was even admitted to a hospital and they've found NOTHING. only lyme test I've had is a quick one that came out negative. my symptoms seem to parallel Lyme disease, though, and I've been ruled out for MS, Lupus, etc. My doctor started me on antibiotics (Doxy 200mg) (I think for peace of mind) and I took them for about 6 days. I've had stomach issues all along, which seemed to get worse with abx (as to be expected) but yesterday I woke up feeling much more fatigued, achey, and in so much pain! I had a sore spot on the back of my head and my headache was horrible all day--and my eye! my right eye is in a lot of pain (had eye issues all along but nothing like this). Told my doc how I was feeling yesterday and he said stop taking the ABX, that I could be having a bad reaction. I brought up herxing to him and he laughed and acted like I was insane, like it doesn't even exist! He keeps saying "maybe it's just a bad virus" but it's been almost 2 months! I feel crazy, anxious all the time, especially bc my doctor doesn't understand. Hoping someone has some insight! I know I need to see an LLMD no matter what, and I plan to call a few today, but I'm sure the appt won't be for a while-- could I have been herxing on the ABX? Should I keep taking them? Help!

Sometimes we do in fact get worse before we get better. Try to dose down on the abx to 100 mg and see what happens. Maybe you could build up to a higher dose. I could not tolerate doxy at all. I know some people cannot. I used high dose ammox instead was able to tolerate it fine.

I also would try to avoid any doctor who laughed when I mentioned herxing. That shows he has no understanding of the disease. You do need a llmd asap. Good luck and hope you feel better.

Don't let the "doc" get you down. Get yourself into a LLMD/ND asap. Sounds like a herx to me for sure, have you been detoxing?
